Does anyone know of a source for yak yarn? Dh bought a sweater from India like 8 years ago for 5$ made out of yak and it is sooo warm. It has alsted really nicely but has holes in it from him doing car mechanichs or building in it.
I want to knit him a new one that is only for nice occasions or everyday wear minus the mechanics etc. but I have no idea where to get some yak yarn that is bulky.
I did a search this morning and only found some thin yak yarn for like 20$ a skein

ebay, but it's REALLY expensive .. around $75/skein. Copper Moose (coppermoose.com) has a light sportweight, $20/3oz, but it's a yak/alpaca blend.

You might try looking for quviut (arctic musk ox) - it's equally expensive, comes in fingering, sport and bulky weights, and is INCREDIBLE! It takes about 3/4 of an ounce to knit a 5 foot scarf (I've never been able to afford more than that at a time - it runs around $400/lb!)
