so...i went to my 40 week check-up. i had decided to have the check-up, do the internal (because i really wanted to know if the baby had dropped).

and if it went awfully, i was not going back and was going to call HB midwives...and if that didn't pan out, i was just gonna skip out on the doctor until i went into labor (assuming i thought everything was okay with me and the baby).

well, it went fine. the baby's head is engaged! he couldn't really tell about dilation or effacement because my cervix was hard to reach (behind the baby's head) and he said he didn't want to hurt me trying to get to it--but he said the engagement was a very good sign. i guess i went from baby not being in my pelvis at all (last week) to fully engaged in a week, and the doctor seems to think that means this baby is coming out after all

of course, she always was coming out! but it does get discouraging, especially for a FTM, because i have no "proof" i can do this. what if i am one of the few who can't?!?! i know that sounds bad, but it's how my mind operates. i'm a big proof person, and unfortunately this process is not a proof sort of thing...it's a faith sort of thing. very challenging for me emotionally.

anyway, i feel much better and calmer and figure if nothing else, this new calm should help trigger labor in due time

he also didn't rush me toward induction or even offer it (thank goodness!), though he did say he kind of thinks i will have this baby before 41 weeks. not sure why, he said he just has a hunch that things are really gearing up. and granted, he probably doesn't know at all, but if an OB is going to pronounce on something he knows nothing about, he might as well pronounce GOOD news for a change!!

thanks for all your support! it really has helped me immensely. i love to hear that my body know what it's doing, and that i don't have to do what anyone else says (even a doctor--gasp!).

Not all doctors are evil C-section-mad surgeons.

So glad you had a good experience! You can and will do this! I can't wait to read your birth story.

I knew it! By everything you have been describing this past week it really sounded like the baby was working his/her way down. Not far to go now.

I'm glad you have found a bit of a calm space. Now get some rest so you will be ready for the big day . This would be the perfect week to spurge on a massage, a manicure, a haircut, or what ever you like to do for yourself the best.

Your body does work! You have grown this healthy baby and your body is waiting for just the right time to give birth. Your body knows!
