I would give the world to be able to put in my "ingredients" and find matching patterns. Is there something like this? There are just so many thousands of patterns and they all have their own requirements. I sort through a dozen every time I want to do something just looking for the "right" requirements. I have to wait till the weekend to go to the craft store so I cant just run out and get the needles I need to fit the pattern and I hate waiting for shipped things.

Lion Brand has a rather unique search site, albeit for their own yarns. But it's still useful even if you're using another company's yarns.

are you on ravelry's waiting list yet? That'd fit your needs... for example, you can search by yarn and up with pop whatever patterns/projects ravelry users have used that yarn for. It's a fabulous site!

I'm on the waiting list but I have a looong ways to go even though I signed up like 2 months ago. Can I still use it? Thought the site was unavailable to me until I get accepted.

yeah ravelry is exactly what you want. They're getting the new servers very soon, so hopefully they'll be able to open the whole list soon. Either way, I promise it is totally (!) worth the wait

And until then, just come to us! Find the pattern you want (or the yarn you want) and we'll give you ideas & help you with math. You'll need a good sized swatch knit up, though.

And a set of interchangeable knitting needles will help with that pesky needle problem!

Yay! I'm so glad to hear Ravelry has something like that. I hope they hurry with the new servers! I'm pretty far now on the list.

Ravelry is great for this...you can look at whatever folks are making with any given yarn, what yarn folks are using for any given pattern, etc. It is truly fabulous. I only wish I had thought of it, though I can only imagine what a huge undertaking it has been :

I cant wait for Ravelry to open!! I do need to get a set of interchangeables. I only have 20 bucks here and there to spend though so its hard to shell out 45, ya know? DH tends to run off with my spare cash and nickel and dime his way through it w/ mint mochachinos (oh my gosh those are expensive!) if I try to hide it away, lol.

My birthday is in October though so I'm hoping to get a nice set (maybe knitpicks?) for my birthday. Thats why most of what I have so far is 16" or straights (straights because I can pick them up at the evil walmart here and I go there every week or two for groceries but they dont have much in the way of short circs or dpns).

It just seems like every time I want to start a new pattern I have to spend 2 hours sorting through patterns trying to find one that fits, ya know?
