I am starting my own web design business in earnest (have always done a little on the side) and while I have experience setting up Mal's E-commerce for clients who have a brick-and-mortar store, I have never done an online shop for someone who did not already have a merchant account. I have looked at so many sites offering this or that and SSL and blah blah blah and to tell the truth I really don't feel confident about what the best value would be for a small business. I want to make the best recommendation possible to my potential clients.
So anyway I know there are mamas here who are doing this successfully and I wondered if anyone would be willing to share their tips with me. I have looked at the stickies and still don't quite "get" what the best practices are for this. I am able to pay a *modest* consulting fee to the right person and also would be happy to promise/sign/whatever that I am not going into direct competition. (I plan to market my services only to my local community, not on MDC.)
