YES!!!! I started craving ice last week. I also wanted ice non stop with my last preg, and I was pretty low on iron, so I hope it isn't a hard and fast rule about being anemic.
I will fill up the biggest cup I can find with ice, then add water, wait for the ice to get melted just enough so it has some holes in it. When that is all gone I start over. It just feels so good in my mouth I can't explain it.

I have also heard it can mean an iron deficiency. With my third pregnancy I wanted ice all the time - once I started taking iron sups because I was anemic I didn't crave it anymore. I live in Houston where it's just one degree cooler than Hades but I haven't started craving it yet.

I've heard the iron deficiency/anemia thing too. I've also heard pg ice cravings clasified as a Pica, so if you start eyeing the laundry starch or that bit of clay down at the end of the driveway you might want to check with your midwife/OB. Otherwise, just find a coctail ice crusher/snow cone machine on sale and have at it!

I'm in the ice crunching club, too. The best is when it's gotten soft and melty in a cold glass of water, so the crunching is nice and easy. Oh, so good. I'm wondering, about the iron deficiency thing, if in late pregnancy it might have to do with increased blood volume?

I'm starting to crave ice water like crazy, which is out of character for me.

Strange childhood story: I used to take an ice cube, lay it on a paper towel, sprinkle it with salt, wrap up the ice cube (in the paper towel), and then suck on the cube/munch on it until it was gone. I haven't done it for years....but it's starting to sound really good!

It's definitely a sign of iron deficiency... but also pica. Make sure you're not anaemic because that can cause longer labor and greater exhaustion more quickly during labor. Otherwise, just be careful because you actually can hurt your teeth (especially if they are a little soft - you'd know cause you'd probably have lots of cavities).

However, all that said, it sure as heck is HOT and we gotta do what we can to keep cool with the extra little built in heater that is out little baby!
