HI,
My hubby and I are looking into relocating to Twin Falls, Idaho. whats it like? We live in the very hot desert right now but my kids have horrible allergies here. Dh has some family up there. Any MDC mamas close? tell me whats great about Idaho .

I grew up in Twin Falls and loved it. My dad still lives there and DH and I are considering a move back within the next few years. The political climate is very conservative, but there are also some pockets of more liberal-minded folk. The majority of citizens are religious and there is a very large Mormon community(with Salt Lake about 3.5-4 hours away).
There are a lot of opportunities for outdoor activities with the Snake River canyon and nearby hills/mountains.

We visit quite often and I always feel very safe- I think the crime rate is pretty low. The cost of living is pretty average for the West, but real estate costs seem to be below average...

There is a small community college (College of Southern Idaho) and that helps to bring in various cultural events.

IMO its a nice place to raise a family if you're willing to live in a very conservative area. I'm of a VERY liberal bent and I'm still considering a move there! Let me know if I can answer any questions you have I miss the area terribly and love to chat about it!

I'm also a native of Twin Falls. I left in 1986 to go to college. Moved back in 1998 because of dh's job. We just moved from there last year. What kind of questions do you have? I'd be happy to answer any I can.

I'm not in TF's but I've lived in Idaho for 7 years now. You couldn't get me to move anywhere else. I'm actually about 70ish miles west of TF almost dead inbetween TF and Boise. (The best of both worlds IMO ) It's a fairly big town but it doesn't take too long of a drive to be in a more rural area. I still have allergy problems here but they are much less then when I lived in GA. If you move this direction let me know. We have a few local groups here that I think you would be interested in.

I don't know too much about the schools. I went to public school and had really good teachers K-6. I have a friend who sends her kids to Acorn and really likes it. I think it's one of the only non-religious private schools in the area... (There are several religious private schools, but I don't know anything about them)

As far as weather, you definitely experience all 4 seasons. Summer is hot (usually tops out in the 90s?) and winter is cold (highs in the 20s and 30s?). Not too extreme in either direction. The wind can be pretty strong in the spring and fall- (there's huge potential for windpower in the area)

I think there's definitely a market for cloth diapers in TF, but I don't know if there's enough to support a small business... maybe if you offered a range of AP-type products?

I like Twin Falls. I have recently discovered them for shopping excursions instead of heading to Boise. Not that they are huge but they have COstco, Winco, Target etc... all right close to each other. In Boise I have to crisscross all over to hit the same spots. LOL
I agree with mamazales, I think to have a brick and mortar store you would have to offer more than just dipes. Maybe mama wear and other stuff.
BTW we are in Mountain Home which is a 20 min drive from Jessica. towards Boise. Idaho is beautiful and if you like the outdoors there is a lot to do. We wouldn't live anywhere else (except Ireland) we lived here almost 11 years the first time around and were gone for 3(New Mexico and Ireland). Now we are back and plan to stay. This is definitely home for us.
Oh I almost forgot to mention that there are hot springs nearby.

I just want to chime in and say that it's a nice place to live. I am in a smaller nearbye community but we go to Twin a lot and my husband works there. Cost of living is pretty low here and Twin offers a lot of stuff without being to big. The Magic Valley area has a pretty low crime rate. There are several stores that carry organic produce and other products and there is a nice farmers market. I've lived here since 1989 and I like it. July is out hottest month so it may be a good thing to come visit then and see how you like it. We often hit 105 or so in mid July. I would suggest a swamp cooler for the summer months. We don't normally go lower than the 20's in winter but we did have a 0 degree weather spell this year with wind making it -15.

It would be great to meet up some of you. I don't know many AP/NFL families around here.

OK here is a lil update. My DH has been contacted by the service manager of the ford dealership in twin and he is chomping at the bit to get us up there. I am really excited I have my SIL house hunting for us. We have planned a camping trip of sorts the first week of july. My house is already listed but no bites yet as soon as it sells we are definatley moving.

I will be looking into maybe renting a little cart at the mall or something to get my business up and running and I plan to offer all kinds of natural baby and mama products. Not just dipes

I lived in New Mexico for 2 years. I know heat!! LOL
I don't know the area all that well. As for the mall it is pretty small but that doesn't mean a cart there wouldn't be a good idea. There is a Lavendar festival in Hagerman the first week in July. That might be a good place to visit, maybe make some contacts there. I will find the website and post it for you.

Valley View sells some nice stuff. They are located down in melon valley, if you need help finding you can always ask. We drive by there a few times a month.

My baby is due in about 5 weeks so depending on that I may be somewhat available while you're here.
