I am so frustrated! I started cding my now 14 month old dd the first of Sept., I got a sample pack that the WAHM sized for me- my child had measurements of a 17 1/2 inch waist and 12 inch thighs, so I got some meduim diaps and some large. All fit at the time. We really liked the medium FB, but I was worried about the thighs getting tight so I upsized to Large and ordered 6 more and a few other things. Today I noticed that ALL my diaps seem to be leaving red marks on my dd's thighs, so I measured her. Her thighs are now 14"!! Waist is only 18"! So nothing fits right! She is about 21 1/2 lbs, so by that (and the waist) she is just barely a large for most diaps.

I don't know what to do! Does any one else have this problem? What do you do? What style/brand do you like? Oh, I am CPF challenged- I just can't seem to fold them right- and all the covers I have have this problem too. I am considering making my own diaps, but I'm not sure how to adjust a pattern to help this- increase the rise?

I have on order another 6 FB! I don't know what to do about those- just plan to sell them on E-bay? I am also frustrated with how much money I have now spent. I felt like she would be in the same size until potty training, so it was OK to go a little upscale. Sigh.

I appreciate any and all ideas. Thanks Mommas!

Have you tried side snapping diapers? I really like side snapping diapers because you can customize the leg and waist fit. Lots of WAHMs make them.

Contact the WAHM you are buying the FB from and see if you can cancel your oder. If you really do not want them and the package is already on the way do not open it when it arrives so you can just return to sender and not have to pay shipping twice.

I do have one side snap AIO- my little one wears it on the biggest leg setting and the smallest waist. Though it is a Little Lambs and I have heard that they run small. Do you have any specific WAHM's in mind for those?

Thanks for the ideas with the FB- the real frustration is that I bought these super cute colored ones I really wanted.

edited to add: If there is anyone out there making something that you think would work for me, my dd I mean- please PM me!

My little guy is only 6 mos old, but he has very chunky thighs...we get red marks with FBs too. I really like the HappyHeinys if you are looking for a pocket dipe...never a red mark with them and they come in super cute prints and colors!

Good luck finding something that fits well!!

You planning on heading over to my side of the mountain anytime soon? If you are we could get together and you can try some of ds' things on your dd to see if there is anything I have that works for you.

andreac- I have a HH on order- your post makes me feel much better about that! I was starting to freak that that was going to be a waist of $$ too.

Trish- You are too sweet!! We don't have plans right now to go over the mountain, but if the opportunity arrises I would love to visit you!

Yeah, I think the HH would work better for you. It's very likely you'll be able to return the FB's as long as you don't wash or use them. Write the WAHM you have them on order with and ask her what to do about them or check her policy on returns.
Firefly and Fuzbaby diapers would probably work well for your child, too. They run big in the thighs compared to the waist, IMO.

I second Kermit on the Fireflies..I just got my first 2 and totally love them!! I can't wait to order more Such pretty colors!

Also, just wanted to add...w/the HHs, when I first started using them sometimes ds would get red marks on his back, where the elastic is (since he has a buddha belly to go with those thunder thighs!) so I just make sure the fleece liner is pulled up above the elastic and then - no marks!

I'll bet the Fireflies would work great for you. They're roomy in the thighs and can be small in the waist. My ds has a 19" waist and there are plenty of snaps left over to make them smaller. And the colors...................

Sounds like my six month old only a bit bigger. DD#2 has a 16" waist and 12" thighs. I have a bunch of firefly diapers. They are a wonderful fit! I also have a bunch of side snap cloud 9 softies which are great!! She wears a medium, but I bet you'd be better off in a large. We don't use pocket dipes so I can't help you there. Sugar Peas and Fuzbombs are both great covers for my DD. She wears mediums in both. Good luck in your search!

Thanks to all of you! I got the FB today , and after e-mailing the WAHM I returned them to her. I am awaiting a HH to see how it fits and I joined the Firefly yahoo group since so many of you recommended those.
I am continueing to also research the other suggestions while my DH fears that I will turn into a (evil laugh) if he only knew!

Thanks again everyone!

I'd suggest you keep practicing with the prefolds. Nothing fits better or is more adjustable, IMO.
Lisa at Hunny Buns custom makes side-snap covers to your child's measurements, and nothing fits my toddler better (about the same measurements as yours, btw, but a bit older). Doesn't really take any longer to get her custom covers than in-stock items from other places.
Happy Heinys also work really well for us. Just get a medium in those, though - that's what size in those works for my DD!

I don't use fb or hh, as fb left red marks and I'm just not a pocket dipe fan; BUT I love AIOs and fitteds. www.grannysark.com has wonderful quick dry aio's that won't leave red marks........and neither will fitteds or aio's from www.lizscloth.com her size two's should be perfect for your dd.

My ds is also a "small" large, and these work for us.

My 20 month old dd has the same problem...I really like Honeyboys, but they are super bulky, so then you have the old, "What kind of clothing is going to fit over THAT butt?!?!" dilemma. The leg elastic is encased in fleece, so I have never had it leave a red mark, plus the velcro lets you adjust waist size weekly! They are also great nighttime diapers.

HH fit well for my chubby thighed, slender waisted guy. I started CDing at 14 months and got a couple of HH, but most of my stash is prefolds. If you are looking for covers I would recommend the Imse Vims Bumpy covers for over prefolds. They were by far thebest fit for us. The prowraps were terrible on my ds' thighs and we hardly ever use them.
