My middle DD will be going to 1st grade this year and will be staying for lunch. She is extremely picky eater- so the PB&J is not an option for us. We are also vegetarians. My older DD will eat anything so this was never a problem until now. So I am wondering what others in my situation are packing in their kids school lunches.
Thanks

We got really excited about school lunches after checking out this site:
http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/

Everything she makes is vegan, but I think it would be inspirational for everyone. We're vegetarian, so DS really liked seeing lunches that he could eat, though I'll probably also be sending cheese! My DS can hardly wait to take lunch this year after seeing some of her photos!

I'm planning to take some of her (blog lady's) ideas, and I'm also planning on using some of DS's favorite foods. I've been watching what he does like to eat over the past few weeks, and making mental notes of what I could do for lunches. I'm planning on getting a wide-mouthed thermos for when I want to send soup or something warm.

I also ended up ordering the laptop lunch system that the vegan lunchbox woman uses. DS isn't a big sandwich person (except for hummous), and I thought he'd find it inspiring to see several small portions of things at the same time. We'll see how it works in reality.
