The washer here in our furnished rental is leaving rust spots on all my diapers. It might be that I let them sit between cycles too long, or that moving them more quickly would help, but I'm not sure it's worth risking it anymore. Supposedly the property manager is having a new part brought in for the washer so that it won't do this anymore, but it may be 2 weeks before that happens!! :

So, I need advice on washing at a laundromat. I've done it once with not great results, when our washer did this the first time. I'm not sure what's best as far as detergent, amounts, trying to strip the washer ahead of time, what cycles and temps to use, etc.

We used the laundry mat for a loooooooooong time! I would rinse out all of the diapers, including just pee-pee ones in the sink or bathtub and then throw them in the pail bag. Basically I was doing a "cold rinse" without having to pay for it at the laundry mat. Our laundry mat had front loaders that did a pre-wash first. I would set the machine to warm/hot(warm pre-wash/hot wash) and add my detergent to the pre-wash. The machines did three cold rinses at the end. Usually that took care of it. If there were still soap bubbles in the rinses I would do another Hot wash.

Oh, I would first pour a glass of water into the slots where you add all of the detergents and fabric softener. The lady who owns the one I went to said that would help flush everybody's soap and stuff out so it wouldn't go into my laundry.

Good luck!

Thanks so much! We're getting ready to make the big haul down to the laundromat. Hopefully this one is better than the one we found before! : Thanks for the tips!

I use the landromat, and don't wash my dipes first I usually put a different load of my own in first. I get some very strange looks though.
Here I am putting poo into the washing machine

I do wet pail at home with vinegar, as I am not paying to wash twice.
Then when I get there I rinse out my pail again, and dry it so I can put my wet dipes back in as I usually bring them home wet and hang to dry.

I havent' had an issue so far, I actually like the laundromat sometimes as with the five of us I can wash fold it all in 4 hours vs doing a few loads every day mind you its expensive..but when you got no choice...

I can't wait to have my own machine then I can reduce my stash even further..lol sell off the regulars and get some more hyena fluff.

Shiloh, I was so excited to be able to wash at home! I admit that I liked getting it all done at once though.
