You know, I have been a bit busy on stuff this month and I don't know how this one slipped by me, but it did.

I apologize if this got covered earlier, but are most of you aware of the Washington Posts' piece written on August 10th? It shows how Bush's Statements are simply contradicted By Facts.

the article entitled, "Depiction of Threat Outgrew Supporting Evidence." Despite its rep from Watergate days, the Post has been very reticent to suggest the White House wasn't being entirely candid with the American people. This and a few other pieces suggest that is changing.

Bush's Statement The Washington Post says...
"A report came out of the... [International Atomic Energy Agency], that [the Iraqis] were six months away from developing a weapon. I don't know what more evidence we need." Camp David, 9/7/02

"There was no new IAEA report... Bush cast as present evidence the contents of a report from 1996, updated in 1998 and 1999. In those accounts, the IAEA described the history of an Iraqi nuclear weapons program that arms inspectors had systematically destroyed."

Bush's Statement The Washington Post says...
"Iraq has made several attempts to buy high-strength aluminum tubes used to enrich uranium for a nuclear weapon." United Nations, 9/12/02

"Gas centrifuge experts consulted by the U.S. government said repeatedly for more than a year that the aluminum tubes were not suitable or intended for uranium enrichment. By December 2002, the experts said new evidence had further undermined the government's assertion. The Bush administration portrayed the scientists as a minority and emphasized that the experts did not describe the centrifuge theory as impossible."

Bush's Statement The Washington Post says...
"Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof, the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud." Cincinnati OH, 10/7/02

"What Hussein did not have was the principal requirement for a nuclear weapon, a sufficient quantity of highly enriched uranium or plutonium. And the U.S. government, authoritative intelligence officials said, had only circumstantial evidence that Iraq was trying to obtain those materials."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2003Aug9.html

I hope to god this man is not re-elected. Also, I am very sadden how Judge Moore with his ten commandments gets so much more media attention than something more dangerous is occuring and being reported on...but no one picks up on it.
Imagine, if this was the early 70's and no other news agencies picked up on Woodward and Bernstein's work...It would have been more NIxon.. wow.

Good example here of how LAZY the reporters and editors are...Nobody wants to actually have to do any digging nor analysis. The Judge Moore story was easy to report on...at least the way most papers and other media outlets reported it was only soundbites of a lot of people upset, one way or another. No analyses of our legal system or properly researched legal history. And, I suspect, most of the media are owned by people/corporations who put Bush in office. Why rock the boat?:

yeah, the whole thing is rather sad.

Judge moore is so much 'sexier' with his ten commandments.

if you saw my posting on vanity fair's article about bureau of land management..well, that is even sadder.
What is happening with GWB in office almost feels biblical..and I don't even know why I say that...

I hope not, either. Sure seems like he will be sometimes.

I wish I still had the link, but there was recently a Washington Post article in which the head of some Christian charitable organization was quoted as saying that, when Bush was a candidate, he had high hopes for the man, as Bush asked the fellow to "educate" him, as Bush was "an ignorant white male" and "didn't understand the problems of ordinary people," or something of the sort. This organization leader was quoted as previously supporting Bush, but now says he does not, as Bush has, as he said (and I paraphrase), totally missed the boat on the "compassionate conservative" deal, and has fallen through on his promise.

I think this topic is quite appealing. It is no surprise though that Bush was voted into office. Just as you said people are drawn to what looks good. As far as presidential candidates it was not so much of Bush's attractive looks but he speech was appealing and his counterparts were not. After everything is said and done, people don't care what is being said as long as they go home feeling happy. As far as Iraq because the american people on a whole don't understand international relations and don't either know or care that our media is censored they were initally all for the murdering of innocent lives, children included.

well, his manner of speech makes me physically ill. i cannot get over the leader of our nation sounding like a down home rube. not that i have anything against down home rubes i just don't see it as a very presidential speech pattern.

Honestly I thought it to be quite boring myself. But we are comparing it to Gore's. And frankly I just remember people rhyming his name with Bore.
