In a week we go back for attempt number two for fillings for my almost-4 yr old dd. She has 4 cavities, and last time we managed to get one filled. However, 2 are on the inner side of upper molars, and the dentist had told us it may be hard to keep her mouth dry enough to use the non-mercury amalgam. He said it depends party on how cooperative she is.
I'm really against mercury, so I feel like just telling him that we won't do it if it has to be mercury. Is this a bad idea, to leave these other cavities untreated?
thx

The only "good" thing about using mercury fillings in baby teeth is that the teeth won't stay in forever- eventually the teeth will fall out on their own- unlike the amalgram fillings I've had poisoning me for the past 20 years.

Sorry, I meant the white filling.

I'd like to switch, but for now we're kind of stuck. Only 3 dentists in our town will treat young children. One is this guy, another won't take new patients, and the third said if we wanted her to do the work she'd need to do another checkup on dd herself to assess her teeth, which would not be covered by our healthcare. Perhaps next spring when it is time for the annual checkup, we will switch. But for now, I will just say no to any mercury.

I wish that were true.
2 years ago dd had 10 caps and 5 filling and ALL OF THEM were full of mercury...
(I didn't even know the dangers of mercury or that they had it in them
)

Now she has bad speech problems and her ST says it's not a physical thing, but a mental thing, her mind just isn't "getting it"
I can't help but think that her dental work (ALL OF THAT MERCURY) is hurting her...
And I can't get anyone to take them out...
She's just 4 so we have years left with these teeth...

I would defintely find another dentist....

I have the same question. We are on state medicial insurance and the county clinics only do silver fillings....they told me I would have to find a private dentist to do them elsewhere if I didn't want the silver ones. both kids have them in their back molars....
I am so upset..I don't know what we are going to do. dh will probably tell me to just let them do it. that is what my mom said too. I don't want to. We have enough other allergy problems w/o introducing toxins into their body....grrr.....

my inclination is to not have them filled..but how much longer will they have these molars and how much will it damage the adult teeth if I don't get it taken care of?
