I have some questions.<br><br>
1. How much did your baby weigh at birth? and<br>
2. How long did you use the newborn/small stuff (preemie and/or infant prefolds, newborn/small fitteds, covers, soakers, etc.)?<br>
3. About how much did DC weigh when you needed medium stuff?<br><br>
Just trying to get a guage on how much/how long we'll need the newborn/small sizes. Thanks <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

My baby weighs 7.5 lbs at birth. We used NB stuff exclusively for a week then use both NB and small size ones for 3 weeks. He outgrow the NB stage by the end of first month and stayed in small dipes for another month. He is 2 months old now and ready to get into mediums. But I guess this is all different for different babies. Some may take longer to outgrow the small size.<br><br><br><br><div style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px;">

birthweight: 8lb 9oz, 21"<br>
We used 90% PFs (infant). He gained weight rapidly and was in mediums by 4wks. (12ish lbs?) I had a Kissaluv0 and a couple nb flannel-ish type diapers. They didn't last but a couple weeks. I think he stayed in infant PFs for 8+wks and by then I was full-on building the medium stash (fitteds b/c premium PFs were huge and I had not yet discovered regular size 4.6.4)<br><br>
When pg, I basically decided to mainly do PFs for those fast growing early days and save the $$ for the longer-lasting-size mediums. I'm still very happy with that decision. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

Mine was 7 lbs. 2 oz., 20 in long. She is currently around 10 lbs., 1 month old, and can still fit into all her nb stuff, but she is too much of a super-soaker for most of it. We used preemie prefolds mostly the first week, then the nb dipes until about a week ago. We don't have many small diapes. Most of the dipes we like are 2 size systems. The size 1's are really still too big for her, but we are using them part of the time. Much of the time, though, we just use unbleached infant prefolds. HTH!

Jack was 7lbs 15oz at birth but he was long and skinny. We used mostly infant prefolds and kissaluvs with newborn proraps. He wore those for the first 3 months before I decided it was time to move on. Until just a month ago Jack was small and skinny for his age and I could still fit him in smalls and a few mediums, now he is all the way into mediums and a few larges.<br>
I'd say he started using mediums at about 16lbs or so.

My baby was 8.4, 20" We had infant prefolds and newborn covers. The covers fit good, but I thought the prefolds wher WAY too bluky folded to fit into them. The AIO's I had in XS were perfect for about 10 days. I used mostly disposables untill 3 weeks (about 11 lbs.) He's now 5 weeks, about 12 1/2 lbs and still fits in smalls fine. He has a big tummy, and is getting to the end of the smalls, so I'd say another week or two and we'll have to go to the MD;s.

Ethan was 7lbs 2 oz at birth, we had to use disposable premie diapers for the first week because even the nb covers were too big. The 2nd week we used newborn prefolds and nb/small covers,(he was 9lbs then) but by the 3rd week they were too small and my oh my he pee's a lot. I'm now using infant prefolds (I go through almost 20 a day!!!) with a small Bumpy Wool Cover and prefolds and medium Calico Baby covers. The medium CB covers are big on him, but with the prefold inside, it fits more comfortably on him then with a small CB cover. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't buy any newborn stuff because it just seemed like a waste of money.

Mine was 8lbs 3oz at birth and we went straight into smalls. A little baggy but no leaks. He was 14 pounds by six weeks and ready for mediums at about seven or eight weeks. He is now 10.5 months and still in mediums. The mediums seem to do the bulk of the work.

We didn't start cding dd until she was out of the NICU, she weighed a little over 5lb. We used preemie pfs and covers for almost 2 months until she was about 8lb. After that we moved into small fitteds/covers and infant pfs. Smalls still fit (a little over 12lb) but we are starting to move into mediums because she needs a longer rise.

LOL...don't worry... It depends on the baby...my son wore preemie diapers for 1-2 months. Actually, we used washclothes for over a month because the preemie diapers were too big...and actually, the washclothes were too big too! My son's bum could fit in the palm of my hand for a long time...and I have small hands. To this day, he's got a teeny tiny bum.

<i>1. How much did your baby weigh at birth?</i><br><br>
Katherine was 8lb 8oz. at birth and... 22 inches I believe (man how times flies!).<br><br><i>2. How long did you use the newborn/small stuff?</i><br><br>
She's STILL in smalls! Well, for the most part. Thing is, she's long and skinny. I don't have a clue how much she weighs now (we'll find out tomorrow), but she's really long. She outgrew the rise on a lot of smalls far before outgrowing the waist. I think around three months or so we stopped using the Kissaluvs 0's... but really she could have still fit into them for much, much longer. We (we? *I* did the diaper changing!) pretty much just stopped using them because there were others I wanted to try out! So.. at nine months she's still on the smallest setting on her size SMALL KP (thanks! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love"> ) if it's over a trim dipe.<br><br><i>3. Um.. I guess this is almost a moot point for us <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"> .. it's not about the weight at all for us. It's all about the rise. I'm 5'11" and dh is 6'5", so we just won't have short babies.... Madeline (born before I knew the wonders and joys of cloth) was a long, skinny babe as well. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
So.. there's my answers... weight hasn't been a factor for us yet... only length <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

I had to respond to this thread because I made such a huge newborn stash mistake! My babe was 9 pounds when born (over 2 weeks early...) and I had a huge newborn/small dipe stash and they only fit for a few days <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"> I was so bummed and have been trying to sell off her small stuff for bigger stuff without much luck so my advice is not to go crazy on the newborn/small stuff. I like the way mediums fit on her better anyway. My babe is now over 14 pounds (at 2 months) but has really odd measurements like an 18 in waist and 18 inch rise!!!! So, every baby's body is different so I wish I didn't go crazy until I saw what dipes/covers would work for her best...<br><br>
Good luck and congrats!!!<br><br>
PS. infant prefolds never fit around her tummy!!!!!! Go figure
