Sorry I KNOW this one of those stupid threads that everyone hates, but I am curious. I honestly have NO idea which I would choose. If it were a selective/delayed vax schedule I am pretty sure I would bf and do that. But otherwise I might just choose formula/no vaxes.

OK I'm trying to think of how to phrase this without sounding all defensive and witchy but threads like this are really hurtful. My daughter was vaxed and formula fed so to me there is no which scenario is worse just for the heck of it. Its like you want people to pick the lesser of two apparent "evils" formula or vaxing. I know this is MDC but you would be suprised how many people do vax at least partially and have gasp used formula because of unique situations. Neither of these make one baby more deisrable than compared to another.

I'm not sure what good can come of a discussion that pits valid parenting choices as the lesser of two evils. Our baby was breastfed, but received some formula when we had raging thrush. Am I a bad mother for choosing to supplement my child's diet, albeit briefly?

And choices like whether to vaccinate or not are VERY personal, and I don't see how choosing to vax is comparable in any way to breastfeeding or formula feeding, beyond it being a choice that the parents make for the benefit of their child's health.

We all make difficult decisions and we do the best we can. While we may or may not agree that <insert whatever here> is best overall for babies, there are ALWAYS special circumstances that can require a paradigm shift in parenting approach. Pitting choices such as the ones you listed against one another does nothing but cause parents to feel guilty over decisions that have already been made, IMO, or cause more stress for parents who are already dealing with a difficult situation.

Plus, if someone tried to give me an ultimatum like this, I'd walk away, fast. Nothing good comes from that sort of thing, I think.

Sorry.

I'm really not sure although I'm leaning towards formula fed and not vaxxed, simply because I believe vaccines may cause more serious and permanent damage.

I'm not offended I just think it's silly.

I would never CHOOSE to formula feed and I can't, off the top of my head, think of a senario where I would choose to vax.

Neither would I but such is the offensive, hypothetical thread

Well, I don't think formula is the devil but if I *had* to choose, I'd breastfeed and fully vaccinate. Breastfed babies have much better serocoversion rates and respond, on the whole, better to vaccines than do formula fed babies.

That said, if I had to use formula, I'd probably think more seriously about vaccinations due to the lack of antibodies and immune properties in commercially prepared formula. But, if I were unable to breastfeed, I'd definitely look into trying to get my baby some breastmilk somehow.

So, essentially, I don't think I would choose either. .

I don't understand why you'd need to make either of these choices. I guess I'm not seeing what vax has to do with breastfeeding? Like, why would you vax if you bf, or not vax if you formula feed? Even in a "hypothetical" situation this makes no sense to me :

Breastfeeding, hands down.

I also do not believe that all vaccinations are inherently evil for all children in all locales.

That's a tough one for sure. I think I'd choice bf if I could break up and delay the vaxes but I really don't know what I'd do.
I don't see how this hypothetical question is so offensive. If it doesn't apply to your life so be it, don't answer.
BTW my first was bf'ed and fully vaxed butb I'm not bothered by this question at all.

It would depend on my family history. In my family more children have had reactions to vaccines than immediate reactions to formula (too soon to say about long-term effects of formula on me and my cousins). There is sensitivity to dairy and soy in my family, though, so several babies had to be on special formulas. Given what I've seen so far, the vax reactions have been scarier just because they were more readily evident.

Luckily I'm not in a position where I would need to make that call, and I don't really see why I would choose not to breastfeed just because I was/was not vaxing.

Breastfed and vax'd. My kids were breastfed until my milk dried up close to 1 year mark and they are vax'd. We do delay some vax's though.
