Would you mind reassuring me that there's only one in there?
How did you "know?" What made you suspect that there were two? Here are my concerns:

1) My uterus has popped up above my pubic bone already. (I'll be five weeks on Saturday!!) This happened two days ago! I'm kind of hoping that it just slipped into a funny place after the c-section with Bella. Still, it just seems *ridiculously* early.

2) I can't tolerate simple carbs except for Tang. I can barely tolerate more complex carbs. The only things that I can eat without feeling horribly, horribly ill are protien, fat, water, and the aforementioned Tang. During the other two pregnancies in which I had morning sickness, I could always eat Cream of Wheat or mashed potatos; they were bland and easy to keep down. This time the mere idea of them turns my tummy, and I'm the kind of person who could normally eat CoW any time of day and in any kind of weather.

3) This pregnancy was seriously unplanned. As in, we were planning to get the husband snipped by the end of the year. And for some reason, when you're not planning things to happen, they tend to happen a lot...

The other symptoms don't concern me; I had them in one pregnancy or another (very early morning sickness, aversions/cravings, etc). It's really those three that make me just the teensiest bit paranoid that there might be two in there. So please, if you were sure you were having twins but it turned out that you *weren't*, post and make me feel better! I'm really, really scared by the idea of having two right now...

This pregnancy has been really different for me.

All the typical symptoms have been "extra".

I felt movement crazy early (9 weeks).

I felt LOTS of movement.

I measured big early on. My uterus seemed high too.

But, now that I am 27 weeks I know there is only one in there. I'm not measuring as big. When I feel all the movements there is no doubt it is one set of feet and one set of hands. This baby is just WAY more active than DD was in utero-I'm talking literally doing somersaults multiple times a day so feet will be up them down. But still only one set at a time. I attribute all the extra pregnancy stuff to breastfeeding while pregnant (and my midwife says that yes, I am having lots of good, high hormone level related stuff going on.)

I'm having an ultrasound tomorrow partially for this reason - fear of twins! (I hadn't planned to u/s at all.) I think it's a common paranoia among women in the 2nd (or 3rd or...) pregnancy. For me the main worry is that I still have pretty severe morning sickness at five months along. With DS it only lasted about 10-12 weeks. That, and I feel huge.

But I'm pretty sure I'm just being paranoid and there's only one in there.

With my dd I knew she was a girl. I just knew. I had a gut feeling, and I had dreams. And I was right. When I got pregnant this time I had a dream that I was having twin boys. I had such a strong feeling. And in addition to that I felt more terrible with this pregnancy than I've ever felt in my life, and I was really sick with my dd. Even my midwife suspected twins with the severity of my symptoms. But when I went into the ultrasound, to my surprise there was only one in there. Boy was I relieved.

I had the twin feeling last pg and was wrong...I had an u/s at 14 weeks that showed only one and then again at 20 weeks and I told the tech to look around really well so I'd *know* there couldn't be another in there. It really did take both ultrasounds to convince me...he turned out to be one really big boy (10 lbs 7 oz)

This time, I'm thinking twins again. I didn't even realize I was pg until I was 8weeks. At my first midwife visit (around 10 weeks) she asked if my dates might be wrong and then immediately if we had twins in either of our families. She found one heartbeat and she looked around for another, but at that point I'm sure it would be easy to miss. I think it's going to take that 20 week u/s (that I was trying to avoid) to convince me it's *not* twins this time (were are also experiencing an unexpected blessing).

I had an early ultrasound with DD, so I knew she was the only one there, but if I hadn't, I would have been convinced I was having twins because I was wearing maternity clothes before the first trimester was over and it was my first baby. By 20 weeks people were asking me if I was due tomorrow. She was only 7 lbs 7 oz.

At my second pregnancy, I was in maternity cloths really early and big early on. Only had one.

At my third pregnancy, had moderate cramping early on, docs found only one HB that was all over the place, and by week 18, we were joking that either this kid was wildly difformed or there were two in there; movement was all over the place, and sometimes at the same time. A kick high up and a kick low down other side... Found out at 19 weeks at U/S that they were two!

At my forth pregnancy ( this one!) I was big early on, had even worst morning sickness than all the previous preggos together, popped out in a matter of weeks, and at my 20 w U/S, there's *only* one

Symptoms might help you detect more than one, but *feeling* them or having an U/S is the only way you can really know...

And what would you change if there were two in there? Not much, except maybe hyperventilate a day or two

I got bigger a lot faster this time. At 16 weeks my uterus was at my belly button. I was sicker at the beginning than I ever was with my other kids.

We did an u/s at 18 weeks, and there are TWO in there!

Best wishes!
