how did you manage the "baby is mobile, but can't get herself off of the bed" stage? We are now entering into that stage and I know other families out there have gone through the same thing. I am looking for ideas. Right now our fallback is to put the crib mattress on the floor and nurse her to sleep there for naps and the first part of the night until I go to bed.

my kids didn't normally nap on the bed. When they did I put up pillows and got them at the first peep.

Same here. Mine napped on the couch, the floor, on me, in the recliner, on a pad in the living room, etc. - I never wanted them "attached" to one place to nap so that we could travel with no problems... at night, I woke when they stirred, and not a one took a dive off our our VERY high bed (I have steps that I have to climb to get up to it)...

DS napped all over the place - changing pad, couch, floor, me, swing, recliner, etc. He didn't like napping in the crib, though we tried a couple of times. He was also one of those babies that cried upon awakening, so when he was on the bed, I heard him as soon as he woke.

You can also buy bed rails, although they are usually rated for 2 years and up, but that's because they are assuming that they are in a big bed on their own. We put them on the bed in her room but if she is on our bed for a nap, I just put pillows around the perimeter and be ready to run at the first sound. She cries as soon as she wakes so she never tried to sneak away.
