I have two questions. Our baby loves to be swaddled. However, he normally sleeps on his side and I just can't seem to get him securely positioned at night when he's swaddled, so I've had him unwrapped at night. Any suggestions?

Also, we haven't done much driving yet but our swaddling blanket allows for diaper changes and carseat straps between the legs. The arms won't poke out the sides of the shoulder straps, but if the chest clip is well-positioned, that shouldn't matter, right? What do you think about this? I think swaddling the baby in the car, if possible, will really help him to stay calm on car rides.

are you using a swaddling blanket? i cant remember what ours is called but it has the velcro stuff on it. my babe sleeps on his side often also and it still stays together.
as far as the carseat, that should be fine, as long as the straps are secure. if you are swaddling him, the straps may need to be tightened, as he may be a bit "smaller" if that makes sense.

Henri sleeps swaddled and spends a good part of the night on his side. I just use a receiving blanket. However, he sleeps right next to me, so he can't roll onto his stomach- he's kinda propped up against me and can only move to his back. Does your baby sleep in bed with you or somewhere else?

We swadle Marlow and she sleeps on her side a lot. We let her do this and she never falls forward on to her tummy. We use a boppy sometimes or she has a little bouncey seat thing. She has some reflux so it helps her to be up at an angle when she sleeps.

We have also swaddled in the carseat. I read on a post awhile ago that this is fine as long as all the straps were the right tension.

nak

I swaddle w/ a Miracle Blanket, and it works just fine in the carseat. The straps go over his chest, etc.

For naps in a bassinet or pack n play (he likes to sleep on his side too) I just put one of those little bumper-things on either side. I think you can get them at Walmart/Target. They are kind of like this
When he's in the Amby bed, I just put him on his side with no bumpers.

I wouldn't dare swaddle her and then put her in a car seat (my DD.) What we do, is we strap her in, and then tuck a blanket fairly tightly around her after she is strapped in, over the straps and buckles. That seems to do the trick just fine.

if you put a baby in a swaddle blanket like i have, it is the thickness of a cotton tshirt. i guess im confused as to why this is a problem, since i put my baby in a carseat with clothes on.
i dont swaddle my baby in the carseat..im just wondering.

Sabbath, that seems like a good option, too.

Aisrael, I have the same type of swaddling blanket and I think the concern for some people is that the baby's arms need to be coming out the sides of the straps for them to work properly.

But tbh, I don't think the baby's arms are keeping him in the seat at all. The straps and the chest clip should be snug enough that it wouldn't matter. Still, if sabbath's method will keep him just as calm, I may do that. Most of the time I'm going to take him out of the seat and into a sling, so I'd prefer he NOT be swaddled in the swaddling blanket anyway, or he'll get too hot.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts!
