Hi, I am TTC (after a m/c) and my progesterone at 6 dpo was only 6.2. My doctor gave me a rx for prometrium 100mg vaginally twice a day for a total daily dose of 200mg. I am tempted to just start with 100mg once a day at bedtime because I am worried about side effects, but I wonder if any of you pregnant mothers can give me some advice? TIA

My progesterone level at 6 weeks was 5. I took 200 mg 1x/day through week 12. I'm not sure how much of what I was feeling was based on the prometrium and what was just normal first tri stuff, but I was extremely tired, depressed and anxious. However, I have the exact same reaction to BC or any kind of hormone supplements, so I'm not sure others would have the same reaction.

Still, even with that, I wouldn't have cut my dose in half. I truly believe that the progesterone is the reason I'm still pregnant, and it was only 6 weeks of icky side effects. Not that it was fun, but it's easier to swallow when it's a defined (and relatively short) time frame.

Good luck!

I have been on the same 200mg dose with the last pregnancy and now this one. It makes me a little more sick and VERY tired so I took all 200mg at night and did not split it up due to the extreme sleepiness... I am done with it now as I am 18 weeks, but I had not been able to keep a pregnancy without it (3 losses)...

Good Luck Mama!

I took 2-100 mg capsules, 3 x daily (vaginally)...great fun. I started on this before implantation (IVF) and took them for about 10 weeks.

I was really nauseaus after I was pregnant for awhile (6 weeks), but that could have been due to the fact that I was carrying twins at that point too. Other than that, I don't think I had any other side effects.

I would do the twice a day since prometrium has a relatively short halflife. It has never had an affect on my nursing or nurseling and I used it several times for luteal and pregnancy support.

If your doc is open to it, though, vaginal suppositories are more effective for helping the pregnancy and have WAY less side effects (such as tired, moody, etc). There's a new one that doesn't require a compounding pharmacy and is called "Endometrin". Your doc can prescribe it in packs of 21 for however many you need monthly (mine did 2 packs(42) so that I'd have enough for 1 a day).
