If you went into labor today...

...how ready are you???

I'm 36 weeks and have this constant feeling of "I'm NOT ready!!" chasing me around.

Mainly because my house is NOT in the condition I want it to be in for peaceful babymooning. Every day I try to chip away at it but I get so tired and often abandon projects half way through....which only makes things MUCH, MUCH worse.

Today I'm cleaning out a closet that we had knicknamed the "scary closet" so that I can put stuff that actually should be in the closet -- like the vacuum I keep tripping over -- in there.

I'm actually making good progress but as I look around I get that sinking feeling that if labor started right now....UGH. What a freakin' mess.

Guess I better get off MDC and get back to work while DD is napping.

No! No labor today! I think I would sit here in denial with my legs crossed!

The house is a mess - toys everywhere, laundry piling up. DH's new store opens this Thursday; he's working 7 days a week, including 4 open-close shifts.
Vacuum? HA! If only it were big enough to suck up blocks, toy tractors, and books.

OMG! I would FREAK! I have my last final exam day after tomorrow and I'm totally nto ready yet. I guess if I went into labor then the school would have to let me postpone it, but:

I don't have my birthkit yet.
My midwives have never even been to my house yet.
My birth pool (MIL's hot tub) still has chemicals in it.
I haven't washed all my dipes yet--including some of the nb ones and the half doz. preemie prefolds (that I might need if the babe came this early)
My house is *trashed*. I finally started sorting out the mountain of baby shower stuff yesterday, but still have a bag full of stuff to wash before I can put it away, a bunch of gift boxes and tissue paper to fold and put away from christmas, a crib bumper (which I need like a hole in the head), a bath seat (ditto), and a carseat box cluttering the living room--in addition to the usual laundry, doggie toys, school stuff, and random dishes and things (thanks DH
: ).
Only one carseat is installed--not the one I'd like to use to transport baby to doc or hospital in case of health issue. The one that is installed is not installed correctly--it's too loose. We need to take that somewhere to get it done properly sinc ewe can't figure it out.
My bathroom is still half-painted since DH did power-washing for MIL instead of painting for me this past weekend.
I haven't bought the herbs for my post-partum herbal baths (except the garlic. I guess I could just bathe in garlic...
)

Oh...and my cat has decided to spend the last three days puking randomly. And with all the clutter we've only been spot-cleaning, so the carpet looks pretty pukey. Could seriously use a good vacuuming, or possibly steam-cleaning.

I dunno if I'd stay home though if I went into labor today. I'm at 35+2. I need to have everything in order by Saturday though. As of 36 weeks, with my midwives' support, I'd stay home, so I guess that leaves um, five days to ge tthe place whipped into shape and gather all the stuff I need

Oh, and we're planning on going to the family cottage three hours away to help with spring cleaning the weekend after Easter. Perhaps I am insane to go away when I'm 37 weeks, but it's my first, so i'm hoping the adage that first babies come later rahter than earlier holds true in my case.

Oh, crap.

I have been staying home to do school work, due to bedrest and I am so behind it isn't even funny. I've never gotten below an A-, and I'm actually afraid I'm going to fail every class (this is not hyperbole, just fact).

We live in a small apartment, and it is actually making it EASIER to get ready for the baby...l think we are almost there. Got the birth kit a few days ago, just need to wash baby clothes, deep clean, get sheets and towels ready etc.

Its the school thing that's killing me. Its sucking up all my time, time I could be enjoying, and I'm still not getting anywhere. grrr...
...then I would be so disappointed since I would only be 34 weeks- too early for my planned home birth. Other than that we are getting things together though. In fact my side-car-crib is already beside my bed.

I have to gather more stuff for th homebirth but didn't want to jinx myself by getting it too early. I'll clean the house before the midwives come for the home visit end of April.

I'm totally ready! I've already surpassed my last birth by almost 2 1/2 weeks!
...I wouldn't be able to say I'm totally ready, but I'm definitely closer than I was even 3 days ago.

I still have to wash all my stuff-- nursing bras, new jammies that open in front-- and pack a bag for me and for baby for the clinic. But the baby's room is ready, sheets, towels, clothing, etc are washed and folded, the stroller has arrived (yay!). Oh, and we're having guests this week, (tho not staying with us) so the house is pretty clean. So other than adding a few last decorative touches and doing some more laundry and, if possible making a couple more dinners, I'd say we're pretty much good to go.

I'll be 36 weeks on Wednesday. (Wow, hard to believe!!)
I am very ready....Actually hoping to go early and have a fast labor so I can avoid my impending May 9th C-section
...

I still need to wash the diapers and get a few more..

My house could stand to be picked up and cleaned a little more but for the most part...I want the baby now

Everything is bought, washed, house is quite clean (I hosted a baby shower this weekend for my girlfriend
), laundry is done, plus I have a few meals in the freezer. Now I shall patiently wait.

NO NO NO!! not yet!!
First, I am not miserable enough yet that labor sounds good. I really would rather get to that point where labor is a relief. I am not there. I still have energy. It is still way easier to care for a baby in the womb than out. All I have to do right now is eat, drink, sleep, and pee all the time. I know from experience that they're much more work out.

Then, my house is still a pretty big mess. I still have diapers to sew. The yard needs a lot of work. We don't have the birth kit yet. My MW has not been to my house yet. We don't have the carseat yet. We don't have any NAMES yet! We still have organizing and decluttering to do.

And at work..I have to finish preparing little instruction manuals for my day-to-day stuff and that is not done.

And DS - I really want to get in as much time with him as I can before his status as #1 most important thing is usurped.

We're not ready, not yet, and this whole thing has really snuck up on me. I will be full term on Saturday for pete's sake! Where did the time go?

I'm 36 weeks too, and not nearly ready. Still need to wash dipes and make some freezer meals. But I'm planning on this little one being right on time just like last time, so no stress here.

NO NO NO NOT YET, BABY STAY IN.

Um, I love to hate those of you who are "all ready".

I am 36 weeks. My DS was born at 38 weeks. If this baby waits till then, I think I'll be just barely ready. I'd really like another week to relax a little.

On the positive side -

My taxes are done and ready to mail (hopefully DH mailed them today.)

My birth supplies are in order.

On the negative side -

The rest of my house is a disaster zone. DS decided this week that cutting paper into small, small pieces with scissors was really, really fun, so on top of the normal mess is bits of paper all over EVERYTHING. We also don't have a mattress for our guest bed, which is where my mom is supposed to sleep when she comes to help out at/after the birth. (She can sleep on the couch if necessary, though.) Oh, yeah. DH is also supposed to be grouting the tile in the shower today so that I can have showers instead of baths, which I hate, in labor and postpartum.

I want to write my birth beliefs/plans/dreams down. I just found out today I am GBS+ (dangit) and I don't know what I want to do about it yet. I hate abx, but am not allergic. I have an email out to my brother's gf who is a medical student for some factoids I want to know before I make a decison.

Most of all I am NOT ready at work. Which is where I am, with a sleeping DS. Which I should definitely get back to work on. I will feel really guilty and slipshod if I go into labor with 15 (important) things on my to-do list and my office a disaster, leaving my assistant, who is also my cousin-in-law and has a 3 m.o. baby and a 2 y.o. to cope with a fair amount of stuff she has no idea how to do. Gah!

And this has NOT snuck up on me. DH & I have been working our butts off for months to get to this point and we're STILL NOT DONE. He told me over the weekend that I have this week to finish stuff up and then he's "making" me rest. Him and what army?

I had to smile reading this thread- I am so not ready either and am relieved to hear I'm not the only one! I am 35 weeks and though most of the baby stuff is in order, the rest of my "nest" is chaos! I too keep starting projects and then running out of steam to finish them, leaving half finished heaps all over the place. I am kind of expecting this baby to be late- counting on it really- if its early i'm in trouble!

Heehee! 34-plus weeks here, me too! Getting excited and a tiny bit impatient but nowhere near *ready* (actually wanting to stay pregnant a little longer -- having finally gotten through the rough ambivalent spots I'm starting to enjoy it at the end!).

We have a small apartment too, but tons of things to sort through -- mainly daddy's "room" (ie computer parts warehouse) that needs to be cleaned out for baby. I have very little clothes (finding gender neutral is hard when you didn't find out the sex) -- in fact I have friends who have been TTC who have waaay more than I do with a month to go.

On top of that, I just had a name change on my last name, plus tax fun, plus I'm trying to finish a novel to get to my agent before my due date, so it's like birthing twins! (Okay, maybe not quite, but y'all get the metaphor.)

Oh yes, and we have *no* boys' names even in circulation. None.

It'll get figured out ... even if I went into labor today it would ... but wow it's a lot to compulsively nest about when you're so big-n-tired.

not ready today! baby has to stay in 12 more days! Other than that my major problems are that my charger for my digital camera is missing so I won't be a ble to take any pictures, my house still needs a good cleaning-which I just don't think I am going to get to. And to top it all off this morning I was spotting a little!!!! I totally stopped what I was doing and called my midwife-I am 35 weeks tomorrow so baby has to wait! I am going to spend the next 12 days in bed with my legs crossed if I have to. I hope I can talk ds into looking for my charger

Well, I'd be really sad if the baby came today, I'm only 33 weeks & 1 day... so I have at least 4 more weeks because I really don't want to go to the hospital!

As far as stuff to finish up before that, I have lots to do, similar to what a lot of you mentioned, plus I have to finish sorting through a bunch of old paperwork (mostly garbage with some nuggets of good stuff in there). The main stuff we haven't bought are the carseats for after the babe outgrows the infant carseat, so there's no rush there. I also need to sit down and make serious lists of what else I need to do, and what I need to pack to bring to the Birth Center. (MWs have a good starter list, so that will help!)

My back and sinuses will be happy to have the baby outside of the belly... ! Plus, it will be nice to wear some smaller clothes even if it takes a little before I can wear my normal clothes again! A weird thing I'm looking forward to - my wedding ring is stuck on my finger, and while it isn't tight (it rotates around easily) it makes me a bit nervous!

No labor for me thanks! We're moving this weekend. I'm hoping to go until my due date at least just so I can get all my ducks in a row. I've got most of my baby stuff together and ready, except for a few things. I don't have my bag packed yet either.

Actually, a part of me wants to go into labor so I don't have to deal with all this moving hassle. But then I know everything won't get done- at least not the way I want it- and I'll be miserable and unable to do anything about it. I have no illusions about being able to get anything done around the house for at least a couple of months after the baby comes. I'm prepared for 24/7 nursing and baby care. So maybe it won't bother me so badly this time. I got ppd last time being cooped up in a messy apartment in the winter, with dh always at work or school, and no car! Both our parents were working and busy themselves and I don't really have any girlfriends, not to mention girlfriends with kids. So I was pretty isolated. It sucked. I really don't want to go through that again.

I'm pretty ready. I'd prefer a few more days, but I could get by if I needed to.

I've stocked up on non-perishable foods and all the personal stuff (You should see our bathroom linen closet!) so I'll only need perishable stuff. We painted the babies' room yesterday, so I need to let it finish airing out, put the furniture back (okay, dh has to do that) then set it up. And I need to get a crib that 2 can sleep in and a changing table. Those are super necessary right now because I have 3 moses baskets and I can change them anywhere. There are some little household things that we still want to do (touch up painting, declutter and donate stuff) but it can really wait. I've even got the babies' bag packed for the hospital and plan on packing mine next week or the following week depending on my next appt.

I bobble between feeling sort of ready and not really ready at all! I did get a 'surprise' shower yesterday that provided a spankin' new infant carseat (Which we were fretting over having not purchased yet) and an awesome new carseat that will take my 2 year old through the rest of her car-seatin' days. Which has helped ALOT in the 'feeling ready' department. My DH finally brought our bags up from the basement and I have put some little baby things in a bag, but haven't gotten any of my or his things, or a bag packed for my DD for her stay with my SIL while I'm off giving birth (Poor thing flips out when I have to lay on my side for bloodpressure at the midwifes office, she is SO not ready to be witness to labor/birth) - We managed to pick up some batteries for our new digital camera, which was something I was anxious to get done before I popped. Carseat & camera were the biggies. Packing would be a big plus. Our tiny apartment is overwhelmed with the me being on bedrest/having a toddler/DH working his butt off (although he played hooky today
to help get stuff in order, thank goodness) - but if the little one was to show her tiny face, I think we'd be just perfectly okay with it! Maybe it's the bedrest talking, but as I think about it, the more I am like, "Forget getting the floor mopped, get this patch of watermelons outta my bellah!"
