did your subsequent babes also have short cords? He was having mild decels during contractions and my CNM posited that the short cord very well could have been the reason.

... just wondering if I should be more aware of it for my pending birth...

My first two were short and the next two were really long. I don't remember about the last one but it was long enough for me to hold her up on my chest without it tugging. I don't remember decels with any of them, but I wasn't hooked up and only checked periodically so there could have been I suppose.

Both my boys have had very short cords. We thought ds1's was because of all the complications, but my pregnancy with ds2 was blissfully normal and it was still super short (both cords were about 6-8 inches long).

I don't know, but I'm interested. Both my kids cords were just average I think...

My midwife told me that a short cord could be an indication of a lack in some vitamin or mineral, but I can't remember what it was?? Anyone else ever heard that??

My first had a short cord, it was under a foot and in a true knot

The cord on my second was fine.

It can be weird. My mom and sister also both each had one baby with a short cord.

I was initially planning a HB with my second pregnancy (before I had complications) and my Midwife was pretty confident there would be plenty of signs if his cord was also short.

My baby's cord was so short, she couldn't come all the way out without cutting it. It' was old about 11 inches long and very very thick, the doctors, medical students and others came by after DD's birth to look at it. I was a celebrity - not one of them had ever seen a cord so short.

yes actually I have been reading about that lately. I don't think it's one mineral so much as genetics - we have over all messed with our diets so much that we are depleted perpetually in a lot of things. also all of the GMOs and pesticides on our foods, in the air etc...

I think some see the short cord a a variation of normal... but I don't think this was considered "normal" until more recent times. that doesn't mean a baby will be hurt by it - but it does increase the risk of cord snapping or collapsing etc to some degree...
