My 2 year old DD has pretty much weaned, and now I'm wondering what I do when she asks for food in the night? She sleeps 8-9 hours and then wakes up and won't nurse. Instead, she asks for mango, avocado, etc. to help her fall back to sleep. I can't imagine getting up to prepare a fruit plate at that hour, and I'm also kind of worried about her teeth. I tried almond milk last night, but it didn't do the trick.

Any others in this situation? What do you give your DC if they ask for snacks in the night?

Sorry, I meant to mention that I've tried water. That works if she wakes before that 8-9 hour mark, but not once she gets really hungry.

And I also forgot to mention that I do make sure to fill her up on a protein snack just before her bedtime routine.

Have you tried warm milk before bed? I know that sounds silly and old, but just a suggestion. You figure our milk is warm so...she might sleep longer. Thankfully ds doesn't wake up at night. We weaned about 3 weeks ago, he's 23m. After he has his bath, he drinks about 3-5 ounces of organic milk, brushes his teeth, story and bed. Lately he's been teething, so he gets Hylands too and that pretty much knocks him out for the night.

My dd loves a cup of decaf (for kids) tea...berry flavored or chamomile....there is a brand out there that has an owl on the front...it's called Sleepy Time Tea and is pretty yummy...

If I am in the bath and she wants her drink or sip of something, DH will warm up a tad of milk....

After all this, we'll brush her teeth since she's usually sleepy...

She weaned a few months ago around 28 months and just recently started asking for yummies here and there but there are none left....I'm almost 11wks pregnant and that did the teeny tiny bit that was left in...

Dh asked "come september, she's not going to be happy that someone else will be using HER yummies..."

Not something I thought about.....LMAO....I'll prolly have her at almost 3.5 wanting yummies again.....LOLOL

As for snacks....she loves bananas and so I've let her have a few bites if she wakes up and then I get out the ol infant toothbrush for the finger and give her teeth a good swipe...she's half awake and will usually let me....sometimes I have used a super soft baby washcloth....then I get the rest in the morning when she wakes up.

Eh, after 8 hrs of sleep there is already plenty of bacteria growing in that mouth overnight.. I wouldn't worry about food for the next 3 hrs of sleep.

when we nightweaned, I took a banana or a small bowl of grapes for the nightstand, simple and easy and not messy...

That's a good point...

I'll definitely give the banana idea a try.
