I'm annoying...girl name stuff again

I know I posted about our name search troubles a while back, but given that we're down to 6 weeks, I really need to come up with a short list, and I'm looking for help again.

In brief, here are our "stipulations" We are looking for an "A" first name to honor my late Papa Al, and a "W" or "B" middle name to honor my DH's late Papa Bill (William). I prefer unique/uncommon/funky names that are not terribly difficult to pronounce/spell and not so unique/uncommon/funky as to elicit strong negative reactions from the general population (although the mn can be out there or traditional/common since it's not going to be as "visible" as the fn). We have a decidedly Jewish last name and like hebrew/biblical names if possible, but at this point I'm just looking for something we like.

If it's a boy, it will be Asher William (unless he's simply not an Asher when we meet him). If it's a girl, I was thinking Ayla (pn. Eye-la) but I'm worried of people saying "A-la" all the time and needing to correct them endlessly (which I've had to do with my name for a lifetime, and am now needing to do for DD). The current frontrunner is Alina Brielle, but I'm not totally in love with it, and would like other options.

TIA for your help!

That all said, I think you should really go with what you love, Ayla is a very pretty name.

I love the name Ayla and I think it is easy enough to pronounce.

And I love the name Wren from mischievium's list. And Willow is very similar to William.
I have to say, I'd say AY-la vs. EYE-la. I don't know that I've ever known anyone with that name though, but that's how I'd pronounce it if I just saw it on paper. I do like Alina! But I also like Lina.

Adelaide is one of my favorite names that we can't use. I'm drawing a blank on other A names I like.

I like the name Willa. But it was used on Six Feet Under if it matters.
Mamatoto2- I agree that Ayla will be habitually mispronounced. To me, Ayla looks like it should be pronounced with a long "a" sound for the first syllable. That could get frustrating for both you and your daughter. (It sounds like you know all about that already.
) I can't think of another spelling that would help prevent that problem.

Here are some A/B/W names I like:
Adair
Adara
Amara
Aurelia
Britta
Brynn
Willa

Love Aurelia (DH does not), what about Amelie? I know, it's in a movie title, but my sister's little girl is Amelie and she is as cute as a button and the smartest (well, I am the aunt and have to say this) and since the movie is French and wasn't such a great hit in the US...

Willa is a strong name, short from Wilhelmina (that's German, just to be honest), and Wilhelmina is female for Wilhelm (my father's middle name) and obviously the English form is William! I have never read a book by Willa Carter though, you might want to check that connection out.

Good luck, we are getting closer and closer and no solution here!
Ayla's definitely going to get mispronounced. Actually, I know someone who spelled it differently, for her daughter. I think it started with an "I" but I'm not sure.

Here are other Hebrew names:

Anat
Ashra (the feminine form of Asher) also Ashera or Asherit
Ayala (might get mispronounced less)

Batya

You could also use the first letter of your relatives Hebrew names (if they had them).

I Love Ayla, pronounced with the long A sound. It will not get pronounced Eye-la simply because of Clan of the Cave Bear and the prominence of Kayla's.

good Luck. It looks like you've got a lot of great names to choose from.
I Love Asher.
If you spell the name Aila, does that make it easier to pronounce? Although it doesn't look quite as feminine. Still, it is a pretty name.
how about...

Aquillah
Amalia

Aaliah
Aspen
Audrey

Ayla is definetly pronounced A- Luh in my head.

AY is a long A sound.

So is AI usually.

I was just working with some first graders on this last week. Two vowels together tells the first vowel to say its name

I love the name A-luh though.... I have a friend with an A-luh spelled like that.

If you want it to be pronounced EYE-Luh, I don't know how you would spell it!! I'm stumped.

XOXO
