We are not going to do a homebirth...instead we are switching OBs.

We met with a new OB today. He has a much more wholistic and natural approach to birthing and seems to be a good balance between medical science and midwifery knowledge. He basically encompasses a lot of the values of natural childbirth the way it is meant to be without forcing any of the typical dr and hospital protocol down your throat.

His c-section rate is remarkably low for Cincinnati as well as a lot of the other things. His whole method just really appeals to me. He's really hands-off. He spent about 30-40 minutes talking to us about different things and we were impressed with his style. Plus, we're assured that he would be answering the phone when I went into labor and he would be the one at the hospital. I really like the idea of that- no more worries about getting someone who doesn't share my idea of childbirth!

Also, I was a little worried about how my fears would interfere with progression if I chose to birth at home. My placenta took awhile to deliver with DD and according to the current OB I'm anemic (though the new dr drew blood today to check). I'm be afraid that I wouldn't fully relax because I'd be afraid of what *could* happen.

So that's the decision for tonight. I don't anticipate that it'll change but the last couple weeks we've been waffling A LOT over all these things so it's not impossible. But I feel pretty comfortable with this decision.

That is great news, Valerie! It is so important to be comfortable with your care provider.

I switched dr's at in my 8th month of pregnancy with my last child. I switched to a midwife from an Ob though. It was the best decision! I hope you feel less stressed soon.

YAY! You're comfortable and happy and that's great and will make a big difference in the birthing experience!

I'm going to be seeing Dr. Bowen in Springdale. We initially went to him to discuss homebirth since he's rumored to be the only OB in the area that "supports" it (he provides backup for 90% of the HBMWs). But we liked him and considering our reservations about HB, we thought switching providers was the best option for us.

Don't get me wrong, I loved my previous OB, I just didn't like her overall practice. If she could have guaranteed me that she'd be at my birth I probably wouldn't have switched. But she isn't quite AS holistic and natural as Dr. Bowen.

Is that who you go to as well? Or are you working with a HBMW?
