I'm Crappy with a Snappi

aka: My daughter has droopy, gappy dipes.

What am I doing wrong? I have the right size dipe (premium for ~20lber) and I'm doing the Angel Wing fold. She's kind of lanky, so has skinny legs. No matter how high I put the thing on her rise, it winds up just hanging on to her wee hips. The dipe doesn't even touch her legs. Grrr...

I looked at Karen's site again for a refresher. It looks like I fold out the front of the dipe whereas she doesn't, so that might be part of it. Regardless, the Snappi is tight when she wanders off. Tutor me. Please. Someone. Anyone.

(And no pin talk! I only have one Snappi that someone gave me and I'm trying to master that before I go impaling myself or my only child with pins, thankyouverymuch.)

My suggestion is to try the bikini twist. I always had the same problem till I tried this fold. With the twist you just twist, pull it snug and roll the excess at the leg in toward her body and it should be pretty snug. You may also want to try folding down the extra rise in the back. That makes it smoother in the front and easier to snappi, IMO.
Where is the Snappi once you get it fastened? At the belly button? Thanks, by the way.
I never use any method but the bikini twist for a prefold, you can't lose

So do you mean that you don't adjust the rise of the diaper? I fold down like 2-3" on a premium prefold in the back. The diaper rests on my dd's hips, and the snappi is fastened at the hips as well. Good luck

I fasten my sons snappi at the hips too...i never even thought of it really. if i fastened it higher wouldn't it just fall down?

Okay, so I'm supposed to do it at the hip. That might help with fit. I'll adjust the rise in the back; I never thought of that. I've been trying to do it in the front. Then the dipe sags and she's got a big bulk of dipe jutting out the front. It's got to be the worst all-time Snappi attempt. I should take pictures. It'd be funny if I weren't so blasted frustrated!
I have a longer, skinnier not quite 20 lber. and I think the regular prefolds fit better than the premium. I have a few premiums and they work, but I get more gapping with them when I snappi (not completely sure why).
I agree with the bikin twist. I have a rather slender baby. The bikini twist made all the difference. I know you do not want to hear about pins but please forgive me for mentioning that pins really are no big deal and if they are stored in a bar of soap they slide easily into the prefolds and makes adjusting the diaper easier. You just stick your fingers between where you pinning and the baby so you would get stuck and not the baby. Besides you don't need to go through all layers of the diaper so the risks of getting stuck are not that high.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I used the bikini twist with my DD and loved it, but now I"m having a boy....can I use that fold with a boy too? I was under the impression the the bulk of the absorbancy would be in the wrong place.

TIA

With a boy just put the twist a little higher so he gets well-covered and the absorbancy is where you need it. At least that's what I've heard
