When DS turned 1 I refused the chicken pox vaccine. I had no "real" reason other than I didn't think he needed it, I want him to get the chicken pox while he's a child. I was wandering around on the CDC website and found out the chicken pox shot has MSG in it---- DS is allergic to MSG. Phew. Glad I listened to myself on that one. He's also allergic to the flu shot, yellow fever shot, and possibly the MMR (that one contains egg but it might also have corn, I've got to look up another ingredient).

You go mama! I didn't vaccinate my children either. The school districts where I live don't make it mandatory at all. I figured if they didn't get it by 8ish I would get them the vaccine. I remember when I got them at 9 I was so miserable. Well..both my kids got it. I don't even know where they got it. I guess my 6yo could have gotten it from school but everyone else had had the vaccine.

You know whats really crazy? I had to tell our Ped that older dd had CP because I had to cancel appts. He was really upset that I had not vaxd my kids and told me that he would have to call CPS. I told him to go ahead. I had nothing to hide and that there was not law saying I had to vax them. The school where my 6yo goes didn't care either.

Good for you. Never discount intuition- it is so powerful.

My kids just finished having chicken pox and they were uncomfortable and it wasn't pretty but they're doing fine.

I'm wondering how effective that vaccine is since I've heard stories of vaxed kids getting chicken pox recently around here.

trust that gut mama! that is what it is for!
And as an aside - you are an exception I would say as most moms would not even know their 1.5 year old is allergic to MSG!

kdtwiss- Long story short--- I thought DS was allergic to milk so I had allergy testing done on him. Turns out he's allergic to milk, egg, and corn. MSG has corn in it so he's allergic to that (and a million other things that have corn in it). And out of both of his doctors (1 allergist and 1 family doctor) neither one has ever mentioned to me that vaccines have egg and corn in them : If I had been a naive mom who didn't do any research I would have continued to pump him full of allergens
