Have you ever been doing some random thing and then been hit with the reality that you are, in fact, going to have an actual, really real baby?

Or is it just me?

This is my fourth child, for heaven's sake. And it's the same every time. I know I'm pregnant. I know I'm going to give birth and have a baby. I have the concept. But then it hits. A BABY! Little tiny hands and feet ... that new baby scent...a cute little mouth that will latch on to my breast and nurse...

I remember feeling the same way...like it just hits you that this is a NEW one and everything will change a little forever. I am thinking I would like to have a 4th (in a few years). Do you have different expectations for birth this time? I know that I had learned and let go a little more by my third. Although the birth was different I feel that I still had expectations.

was talking to my sister in law on the phone and could hear her newborn making the cutest little noises. Absentmindedly I was like "I want one..."

I've had different expectations each time. My first's birth was a horrible medicated hospital birth. After that birth I became informed and empowered and had a wonderful natural hospital birth (wonderful minus the annoying nurses!). With my third I let go of most expectations, except that she would be born in water, which she was, in a birth center. This time we're having a homebirth, and I'm just expecting to follow my body's lead and do what comes naturally.

ROFL! I know the feeling. Sometimes it hits me and I'm like, "OMG, I so can't wait!" And then other times it hits me and I'm like, "Oh crap! What have we done???" It doesn't help that Bella is being TOTALLY 2 lately. When she's being her angel self, I can't wait to have this kid; when she's having one of her thrice-daily meltdowns, I just don't know how I'll handle two when I feel like I'm a horrible mom to just one!

Please tell me I'll survive? :LOL

Yes!!!

Sometimes accompanied by a wave of fear, but other times with joy and excitement. It's definitely getting more real now that my tummy is poking out and the baby's movements are getting more forceful in there.

Melissa - of course you'll survive! You'll do great.

ALL the time! Recently, it hits me every other day or so... I'll turn to DH and say something like: We're having a BABY. No, an actual baby. Do you realize that? We won't have anyone to give it back to, or anything! It'll be OURS! That is so weird...

Hopefully by September it'll be more real.

I was just reading "Baby Catcher" and there was a funny birth story in which the Dad was delivering the baby (with the help of the midwife). The baby is crowning and he could see more and more of the head, he was calm and doing a great job. Then the baby's head was all the way out, turned up toward him, and the baby opened its eyes and looked at him. He jumped up and yelled, saying something like, "It's a BABY! It's ALIVE!" He was concentrating so hard on what he was doing he momentarily forgot that there was an actual live baby coming out of his wife! :LOL He calmed down and caught his child, but even for a while after the birth couldn't get over the fact that he had a baby and that he'd fogotten it was a baby!

I definitely know what you mean. I get so caught up in the rational things and being pregnant and every once in a while I think "Yikes! In a couple of months I'm going to have a newborn again!" Mostly, I'm thrilled and partly I'm worried about ds's adjustment and my ability to pay sufficient attention to him. But, yeah, I sometimes even stop to think that this is a whole new person and not just another baby Desmond!
