Can anyone help me? I checked out Mal's shopping cart and it has everything I need except inventory tracking. I only sell a few items at a time, as they are made, or maybe 4 to 5 custom slots. So I really need a shopping cart that keeps track of what's available and doesn't allow 20 people to purchase custom slots when I only have 5 available. Is there any free software or remote hosting site that offers something like this? I already have my business site setup on my ISP server, but so far I've been e-mailing to my Yahoo group, then manually updating the html of my in-stock page as people e-mail me back. That works, sort of, but I'd like something a little more automatic. I only open for orders once a month or so, so it's not worth it to me to pay much money for this convenience. I was thinking about wahmshoppes.com, but I already have all of my site set-up. I just need an in-stock page that's dynamically linked to shopping cart ordering activity. Is there anything out there for me?

Thanks!

I'm looking for the same thing, as I only have one or two available of everything I make.
I'm doing paypal shopping cart to begin with.....maybe there's a line of html code that you can plug into any shopping cart button that will do this? Or is that TOTAL wishful thinking?

Okay, Karen - here' what I found
Paypal Pro Shopping Cart
http://www.perl-studio.com/estore/

It's kinda pricey ($99), but you can download it to try for a while. I'm thinking I might do that when I'm all ready to stock my store, and ten use the first $100 I make in sales to pay for the software. At least it's not a monthly payment or a per-sale fee - we just have to cough up the $100 and we're free & clear.

I looked around at other stuff, but it was either too much money for something that didn't look as nice as Paypal, or it was cheap but didn't accept paypal.....and I think accepting paypal is a MUST when selling to SAHM's!

I'm still interested to see what others come up with, though - I have a hard time forking over $100 for ANYTHING!

Hey Stella,

I ended up signing up at www.wahmshoppes.com. They're prices are really reasonable: $10/year to register a domain (but I think you already have that, right?), and $6/month for hosting and shopping cart services. I haven't been able to get into it yet because I'm waiting on my domain name registration, but they seem to have in-stock capablility and lots of templates, etc. for building a store. I'm really only interested in the in-stock capability. I'll mostly be selling custom slots, and I don't take payment until after the product's finished, so payment options aren't an issue -- although I'm pretty sure their shopping cart takes Paypal with no problem. I'll check out the software you found, but for now I'll give wahmshoppes a go and see how it works out.

Thanks

Okay, for anyone else who is interested - I found an article on the Paypal Development Network on how to do this inventory tracking yourself. The article is horribly tech-y, but I guess that's the price we pay for free info. I'm going to print off all the articles I need, and try to figure it out.

Good luck with your wahmshoppe, Karen - I know a lot of people really like theirs.

Hey Stella,

Do you have a link to the article? I'd like to give it a read also. Do you know how to tell if your host is Perl or MySQL enabled? From what I've read, it seems like that's a requirement so that your page can be automatically updates as your stock changes.

Turns out that if I want to hve inventory tracking on my yahoo webhosting site, I have to upgrade to the $20/month package, just so I can use PHP/MySQL. Ummmm....NO.

I've thrown in the towel and am in contact with Tony about setting up with wahmshoppes. For $6 a month for webhosting AND inventory tracking, I feel stupid for not going that route in the first place.
