Do I *have* to go to the dr. to treat it? I guess what I am asking is do I need antibiotics?

My head is swimmy, I have had headaches for two days, my left breast is very tender, I have two small red spots on it, and the nipple hurts when dd nurses. Does that sound pretty much like mastitis?

Thanks for any input

Not sure. When I had it, my breast was sore and hot. Nursing hurt, and I felt like I had the flu. I needed antibiotics once. The other time, I went to bed for 24 hours, had her nurse non stop, and loaded up on vitamin C and lots and lots of water.

maybe not... I had mild cases three times that I treated at first sign of symptoms with bedrest and lots of nursing and pumping on the hurt side. I was lucky that my dd was young enough that she didn't mind hanging out and nursing in bed all day.

you can try calling the dr to "ask" if you should come in, sometimes they can be talked into prescribing over the phone.
