That is excellent Pandora. And not just for the budgetting, but it will be excellent for his health as well.

He gets a big

Cool! My DH works close enough he could but he needs to get in a bit better shape first. Maybe next year. But, he often needs to leave the office for work stuff so he may never.

Nicely done. What a hubbie.

I am giving gentle encouragement to my dh to start biking to work. It is a lovely 4 mile, flat ride. He's on to me though and putting up some good resistance to the idea.

My hubby used to do this for a while, when we were about 3 miles from work and we only had one car and I wanted to have it home with me.

Now we live 30 miles from work so its just not possible. But, he takes the train, so that's better than driving.

We're about a 5 minute drive from his work, not even.

Like if I got *SO* Fed up with it here (Yeah right) I could literally walk to the air terminal with the kid, my bag and hop on the next plane to the east coast

This whole area is pretty bikeable. It's a valley so some places you HAVE to go uphill some places it's pretty easy to get to going down. From my place to town, it's all a dowhill trip. coming back however oi!

even if we lived in town I'd encourage him to bike. He's not in the most "awesome" shape, so he could use it a bit.

Once my DD is in preschool for 3 mornings a week, I'll be hitting the gym for some gentle workout myself. and after the babe is born that's when the real workout will begin. I hope my DH gets me a bike for Christmas...that way I can go everywhere too. (I'm a lisenceless momma. Better for the earth, better on the budget, and WAY better for everyone else. lol)

My DH just started biking to work too (3 miles) - and he'll use bike + bus when he has to work at the farther off locations (20 miles). I'm really happy about it. One of his coworkers started doing it and that spurred DH into doing it.

I think the gas prices finally really spurred the change. A bus pass is only $20 - which is less than 1 weeks gas when he has the long commute. And he gets time to read on the bus, which he loves.

yay! Mine does too, or at least he did until he hurt his back (and now he's out of work on temp. disability for awhile). He only works 2-3 miles away and can take back roads all the way there.

Now if I could just get him to wear a helmet.
