the past week or so i have found myself extremely exhausted and i can't pin point why. there are some things that have changed though. ds has been bfing more frequently and for longer. i have changed my diet...i eat tons and tons and tons of vegetables and more fish. i've pretty much cut out beef and i do eat a lof of chicken. i have also been taking cod liver oil pills, prenatal vitamins, and drinking lots of tea. i have even been going to sleep an hour earlier. i would think this would increase my energy. does anyone know what it could be? i can hardly keep my eyes open!

Since you just had a baby, it's possible you're having some thyroid problems. About 10% of women have thyroid problems, and most of those happen after pregnancy. For some reason, the thyroid often can't recover from pregnancy and ends up making too much hormone (hyperthryoid) or not enough (hypothyroid). If you are tired, then it's possible your hypothyroid. Other common symptoms are feeling cold, and gaining weight or not losing weight. You can google some of the more uncommon ones. If any of them apply to you, then you see your doctor and have a full thyroid screen done (not just your TSH level checked).
Maybe you need more carbs? Or good fats. I find that I need a lot more carbs and good fats than most people say you need. If I don't get them I get sleepy and GRUMPY. Not pretty.

well alex will be 5 months on the 16th. i definitely am not losing weight and i have cut carbs almost out of my diet. i have also been experiencing bouts of dizziness. maybe i'll add some carbs and check into that thyroid thing cause i don't know what the heck is going on!
yeah. try the carbs. I guess some people do okay cutting them, but I don't. I need a LOT. When I go low-carb it's just not pretty.

angela, i will try that. i looked up symptoms of hypothyroidism and i have most of those symptoms. i'm going to get it checked out.
Cover all the bases - hope you feel better soon!

are you getting enough iron? you could be anemic. prenatal vitamins don't necessarily provide enough bio-available iron. caffeine can interfere w/ iron absoprtion, i think, too. are you staying hydrated??? could you be pregnant
???

I was anemic before I got pregnant and after I had Alex it seemed to go away. I stopped taking iron tablets because I didn't seem to need them anymore. I don't drink caffeine at all. I am staying hydrated. Pregnant??? Please don't even joke about that! I hope not...Alex is almost five months and I had so many problems with his pregnancy...I would probably sink into a deep depression if I was again. I really don't think so though. I've been trying to ward off dh for some time now. I've been pretty successful but there are times where I give in.

jennyrebecca - I think I am getting enough protein and I do eat six small meals a day.

I've struggled with anemia off and on for years since I've been pregnant and nursing. My first signs that my iron was low were always dizziness and fatigue. Hope you get to feeling better soon!!!
