I'm going to start doing some school-age childcare and maybe in the future add some younger kids. I'm a former teacher and have lots of professional references, but I'm not sure those are appropriate for child care. If I was interviewing an in-home provider I would want character references.

What kind of references did you provide when starting a home daycare?

TIA!

I would want to talk to someone that you've interacted with their children as a first preference. So if you are friends with anyone who you've taught or tutored their child first. I guess the next one would be a professional reference because they can attest to your abilities and dependability. But I think your right, parents want more of a warm parent to parent feeling than a hiring agent would want. Good luck!
