Have you ever had someone come to your home for a haircut? I can't stand the smell of salons (I'd probably puke) and my toddler would be running around with scissors. I think it would be cool for someone to come to my house and then get a haircut.

How do you find someone that offers this service?

I've heard of in-home spa services but I've never heard of an in-home haircut. Someone must do it though.

I do my own now. Bought a razor comb for $2.99 and it looks better than when I used to pay $40 for it.

I do know people who do hair in-home, but usually they're friends or at least acquaintances of the client, not strangers.

I cut my own hair. I have rarely have "great" salon cuts....so I started cutting it myself. I must say, I am as happy with my DIY cuts as I am with my salon cuts.

Cut it a little longer than you think you want, if it looks horrible, have a salon do it.

Friends will often do it in your house - know any haircutters or wannabe? I cut my sisters, mother's, children and occasionally friends hair - and i do it for free!

Hubby cuts mine most of the time.

My grandmother used to go to people houses and do their hair for extra money. I think it was just word of mouth. She ended up a single mom to 5 in the 60s, and it was kind of "hey, I'll do whatever I need to for a little extra cash." She did it until a few years ago, but I think then it was mostly for fun. Now she does it for free for older ladies who can't get out.

Hmmmm...I have a gal that comes to my home to cut mine-it actually works out rather nice as she brings her little boy who is only a year older than my ds, so they play and have fun.
She is a sister's friend who left the salon after having 3 kiddos but does it on the side for extra $ now.

However, I would have to think there must be a way to track someone down?
Do you have any areas around you that offer a bulletin board service? A IRL place where you could post an "ISO?"

Do you have a friend who'd do it?

My mom used to have a lady who'd come to our home and cut her and my hair. She was very good, she just didn't want to deal with being in a salon.

She also had a little boy who I'd play with. I don't know how my mom found her, though. I think word of mouth.

Yeah, same with the woman who cuts my mom's hair. Quit working at cost cutters to stay at home with her kids and has some loyal customers ocme to her home. Maybe put an ad on craigslist?

something else to consider is look for someone who cuts hair in their home, so you are not paying for them to drive to you.

also consider a guys barber shop, they don't perm and color and use all the chemicals, the old spice spell may be intense but all the old guys sitting around would gladly keep an eye out for your youngen.

I used to do home visits through a salon I worked at in Phoenix (mostly people who had health issues). call around. (but be prepared to pay for the service. I charged at least double my normal rate) or maybe consider going into the salon first thing in the AM. if you explain your sensitivity, most salons will accomodate. I also have worked in a few different salons with seperate rooms for chemical services.

Oh this is good to know. I guess I don't mind paying about double, since I never get my hair cut.

I used to have my former hairdresser cut my hair at her house, because I'm chemically sensitive. After I moved, I found someone I like okay that wasn't too expensive, but it was a long drive... so I just started cutting it myself. Surprisingly, I liked how it turned out even better than when I had it done professionally, although it is difficult to get the back even.

My sister in law cuts everyone in her family's hair. She's not trained, but she cut hair in college for extra money. I thought about asking her to cut the back of my hair to make it easier.

You should definitely ask around.

Also, you may be able to find a natural hair salon in your city. I used to go to this one in Atlanta when I lived there: http://ecocolors.net/index.cfm?pg=ANaturalHairSalon

Good luck!
