I have a couple questions regarding dental work because I am BFing my 5 month old. Firstly, I have two cavities I desperatly need to get taken care of as thye are pretty bad. They are luckily in the back of my mouth, but are in BAD shape. I also have a extra tooth in my mouth that is shoving all my bottom teeth outta wack. I know it needs to be pulled and I am gonna need braces, my question is, how much of this can be taken care of while bfing? What are my options? What do I need to avoid?
TIA.
In addition to avoiding amalgam, I would make sure the dentist uses a local anesthetic that's been proven safe while bfing. Lidocaine and bupivacaine are the only ones that have actually been studied, and both are fine. The Nursing Mother's Companion suggests that if another LA is used, don't nurse for 4 hours after the drug is administered.
