Please, please, please repost when you find out how exemptions are dealt with in the state of IN. I work in a group of schools, and my school nurse keeps telling me there are no excemptions in IN, but from reading this board I know there are but am having difficulty figuring out how the system works....please update with any info you find

It's really hard to get it any easier than IN, guys!!!

here is the state law:
A school child may not be required to undergo any immunization when the child's parent objects on religious grounds. A religious objection must be:
(1) Made in writing;
(2) Signed by the child's parent; and
(3) Delivered to the child's teacher or to the individual who might order an immunization

so, to summarize, your exemption must be .. IN WRITING. SIGNED. and GIVEN to the person asking for it.
umm..okay.

Here is mine.

I, "bobandjess99", mother of "tiny midget", state that our family is opposed to vaccinations/immunizations on the basis of our religious beliefs.
Sincerely,
Bobandjess99

It is WRITTEN, SIGNED, and GIVEN to the teacher/principal/nurse.

I was thinking the same!! Dang that's an easy exemption to write I'm going to do ths one

'I,'my name'
In accordance with Indiana Code #20-8.1-7-9.5 section 2a. I certify that the administration of vaccine & other immunizing agents to my child,'Freja L', is contrary to both DH & my personal religious beliefs, held either individually or jointly with others, and I therefore request that my child be exempt from the immunization requirements of the Indiana State Statute 9.5.

'my name, date, and signature'

I would leave out the part where you say "i therefore request..."
because that makes it sound like you are *asking*.......which you are NOT. Plus, some unknowledgeable person might take it to mean they can therefore "deny" your "request", you see what I mean?
Your wording is quite eloqent, but I think you are being a bit too...polite? in that sentence, I would just take out the "request" part. That's just me.

I was going to say not to "request" as well but then I went and read our exemption letter and we used that wording. We said "request, as permitted by law" so it sounds much less like a real request.

And the code has changed so make sure you reference the right one.

It's IC 20-34-3-2 now and the immunization requirement is code IC 20-34-4-2.
http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/cod.../ar34/ch3.html

I figured it out I think

20-34-4-2 instead of Indiana State Statute 9.5 for the vaccine requirement code? and 20-34-3-2 is the actual code about the exemptions?

Sure here it is

'I, Melissa 'l', in accordance with Indiana Code # 20-34-3-2, I certify that the administration of vaccine and other immunizing agents to my child, Freja 'l', is contrary to my husbands's and my personal religious beliefs, held either individually or jointly with others, and I therefore request as permitted by law that my child be exempt from the immunization requirements from the IC# 20-34-4-2.'

And then I signed it, wrote my name in print and wrote the date

I sure don't think you're an idiot. This stuff is confusing and our exemption law is so simple. I feel sorry for everyone that has to file in NY.

You might have to deal with clueless people at your school though. The lady I gave our exemption to thought "in writing" meant it had to be hand written and wasn't sure if mine was okay because it was typed. :

LOL thankfully on the letter they gave me today said 'A written or typed up to date exemption must already be filed or returned to school with this form'
