Indiana residents please, please call (317) 232-9600 or (800) 382-9842 to ask your representative to support HB86- the licensure of midwives. It's very easy and quite quick to do. I called this morning and it only took a few moments of my time.

Indiana State Medical Association has targeted the little group of midwives as their main agenda for the rest of the session. Please call!

BUMP! I just got this this morning:

Quote:
It was rough at the Statehouse today. The medical lobby persuaded three legislators to insert irrelevant amendments onto our bill with the sole purpose of killing our bill. I know that you all have been working hard today, calling and emailing. But now, we need you to flood these three legislators with emails, and phone calls.

Please tell them to withdraw their opposition to SB86, and to support our bill. Keep your posts and phone calls positive. Tell them the merits of the bill, the merits of licensing CPMs. If you are a constituent tell them that. We really need them to hear from constituents. But even if you are not, we need everyone writing and calling.

We need to pull out all the stops - ask everyone you know to write!

So please, contact these people.

We really need your help.

Tomorrow will determine whether or not our bill lives,

and goes on to the hearing on Wednesday.

: I emailed all three of these reps and am going to have my dh do the same. Have your husbands do this, too!! It literally took 5 min. I just copied and pasted the message. Here is what I wrote, if anyone wants to use it/alter it some...

Dear Rep. Walorski,

Even though I am not in your district, it is my understanding that you are opposed to SB 86, the midwifery licensure bill. I am asking you to please remove your opposition to the bill and allow professional, trained and skilled midwives to be licensed and serve in a homebirth setting.

This is what families want and deserve. Homebirth is safe, and licensed midwives will make it even safer! Idaho just became the 26th state to license professional midwives, let's make Indiana the 27th state and follow in the footsteps of other progressive states that have already done this!

Thank you and respectfully,
Can we post this on other areas of MDC?? Or has it already been?

PS-hi stellimamo, we have the same m/w's. I remember seeing you at my prenatal when your son was just a newborn!

I wrote to all three, though I am not an Indiana resident. I got an email back from Rep. Walorski, saying that the bill is now dead because the deadline to hear bills on Second Reading passed.
