My nearly 7 month old DS has been losing weight. He was diagnosed with reflux and put on Zantac and we're making a gradual switch to Prevacid. But he's only gained back a few ounces in the past month and they're starting to bring up adding in some formula. Does anyone have any guidance for me? How do I make this boy gain weight? He's eating like a champ, not throwing up or having diarrhea. Where is it all going???

Have they told you reflux is often related to food allergies? Ilana is my 2nd baby w/ reflux, but all 3 of mine have been/are milk, soy, and egg intolerant. Evan was about intolerant of everything and ended up on rx formula at 1. What formula are you using? If he's not tolerating it he probably won't absorb it or other calories well. Evan gained 6# in the first 6mos on his formula and then evened out to where he's genetically to be (so only 2# since then <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> ). Ilana is having weight problems too right now and we just started on her 4th reflux med. YOu can check out the GERD thread in bfing problems.

The doctor told me to eliminate dairy. Which I did. My daughter has a gluten/dairy intolerance...so looks like gluten will be next to go for me. Thanks for the forum suggestion. I'll check that out.

Have heard from many other mothers who said baby's reflux was related to allergies to dairy and/or wheat. Once the allergen was eliminated from the diet the reflux got much better. If you're breastfeeding remember that the allergens can come through your breastmilk. Hope you find something that works.
