I've never had a baby before let alone used cloth diapers. But I have done web searches in the past and this is what I came up with.

Diapering basics

How to buy used or sew your own cloth diapers

Why choose cloth diapers

Cloth diaper FAQ

I hope someone with actual diapering experience chimes in.

Our Diapering forum here on MDC is a wealth of knowledge. You can go in there and ask away.

In my experience, it was hard to get into CDing the first time around. I investigated it off and on for well over a year before I finally made the leap. All the jargon and options were confusing to me. However, I love it and I'm glad I did it. Remember, there's no law that says that you MUST go exclusively to cloth once you start. It was a relief to me (and especially DH) to realize that I could still use sposies for overnight or long trips or even if I just felt like having a "day off" from CD.

Anyway, read away and ask lots of questions. You can always call me out here or PM me if you want--when I first started I had a ton of questions and I remember sometimes it was hard to get people to answer because they get tired of the same newbie questions over and over. I never mind so give me a holler if you need help!

Oh--prefolds and covers are a good jumping off point, too. I eventually moved into some of the "fancier" dipes like pockets, but I have a special love for prefolds. There's just something earthy and old-fashiony about them.

Well after doing just one nights worth of research (and talking to my mommy ) I am sold on CD! I had never thought of the *real* numbers of disposable dipes that are polluting the world when that can easily be avoided wit CD.... And I have an idea they can be super cute too (there is the girlie girl in me!) Now I just have to research a little more about getting into the swing of things and what would be best for me for the time being...

I know when I started using cloth when DS was born, I did all sorts of internet research because I was the only one in my area who used cloth (or so I thought, turns out there WAS another person...). Since that time, I've started a cloth diapering group that meets monthly and so many of the parents who come credit the group's existence for their continued use with cloth, and a LOT of people have reported that being able to see the different diapers in person made a world of difference for them - it's one thing to see things online, but another to see them in person.

So, I usually recommend that people check to see if there are any similar groups in their areas, because that kind of support locally is really nice.

I have a TON of info on my website: http://diapering.wallypop.net/infohowto.html

My favorite is the total geek-out calculations of the cost of cloth vs disposable, including laundry costs... http://diapering.wallypop.net/infocostcomparison.html

Diaper Decisions has a Cloth Diapers Near You directory: http://www.diaperdecisions.com/

Motherhood naturally has a good resource guide as well: http://www.motherhoodnaturally.com/clothdiaperinfo.htm
