Long story short: bunch of unemployed black people in MI stopped Whirlpool from buying up land to turn an incredibly poor community into a resort town for rich people. So they paid some people to say that this Reverend was in charge of fixing the election so they could go through with it anyways.

On May 14, 2007 in the Berrien County courtroom of Judge Alfred Butzbaugh, Rev. Pinkney was sentenced to one year in jail and five years probation even though he passed a polygraph test proving his innocence.

Rev. Pinkney in his address to Judge Butzbaugh said, "I stand before you an innocent man. I passed the polygraph examination. Prosecutor Gerald Vignansky does not have a single witness who can pass the polygraph examination. Brenda Fox cannot pass the polygraph examination, Rosie Miles cannot pass the polygraph examination, Earlean Wiley we all know cannot pass the polygraph examination, and the Fosters cannot pass the polygraph examination. Not one single witness, not even the prosecutor Gerald Vignansky, can pass the polygraph examination. My attorneys submitted more than one thousand letters of support including over three hundred from Benton Harbor citizens. This was a tremendous victory for the people of Benton Harbor. We are still not through whipping on Berrien County."

Oh, there's a petition too:

UPDATE!!
Makes me feel bad that I'm not one of those who sent letters. I guess I've gotten conditioned to the idea that what I do doesn't make a difference.

Polygraph test can be tricked. They are not accurate. That is why they are not admissable in court.

Yeah, but when they're tricked they're almost always false positive (they say true when they're really lying) not false negative (saying lying when really true) and not ONLY did he pass his, the WITNESSES all FAILED theirs, and I know at least one witness formally recanted his story.
