I usually don't have a problem sleeping, once in a while usually if I've taken a really long nap with dd during the day then I'll wake up for awhile in the middle of night. As soon as I got pg I started having sleeping issues. I am so tired, but I'll wake up for 3 or 4 nights in a row and be tired but unable to sleep, this isn't for an hour or two, but half the night, last night I was awake from 12-5am, and dd wakes up at 6am. Then I'll sleep for for a couple nights, and the cycle continues. It's really affecting my life, I'm not able to function well during the day because I am so tired. Everyone asks me if I have severe m/s because I always look half dead, but they don't quite get it when I tell them I'm just exhausted. : Of course this comes at the time when dd finally started sleeping through the night. Anyone else having issues?

Hi Amy,
I too am suffering from sleeping problems. I actually have woken up bright eyed unable to get back to sleep around 2 or 3am...not getting back to sleep till 5 or 6. I sometimes take unisom, sometimes 1/2 or 1/4 tablet to help; I didn't feel good about taking it-but did a lot of research and I feel 'ok' about it. I just have to get sleep or I will be no good to anyone and I'll start to get sick. Before pregnancy I didn't have this problem at all...just used to be more of a night owl.

I've been having some insomnia. Not as bad as during the first few weeks, and we have a lot of general life stress right now, so I can't really say it's necessarily pregnancy related.

I sleep pretty well until some time in the early morning, like 3 or 4 am, when I get up to pee, afterwhich I usually eat a banana to ease my stomach until breakfast. It's at this point that I sleep really bad for the next few hours. Lots of tossing and turning and weird dreams. :yawning:

Me, me, me. I've been using some Valerian which helps but am definitely having a lot of tossing and turning. I'm already feeling pretty uncomfortable rolling over in bed. Ugh!

yes more frequently lately. Last month I practically slept the whole month away it seems like! Right now, though, I'm not able to sleep deeply at night and my naps are really rough... so I'm feeling constanly in need of SLEEP!

Unfortunately for me, I have sleep issues even when not preggie... worse, actually, because if I nap it just throws out my ability to sleep at night... so at least I'm getting more sleep now! hahaha

Yeah, me too. Not as bad as half the night, but I have been waking up at 4 or 5 and spending an hour or two awake. I think, "should I just get up?" but then fall back asleep and it's all I can do to actually get out of bed when my alarm goes off at 7:30. :yawning:

Totally. But it's not new to pregnancy for me, have been like this for all of my adulthood (decades already) so ... and usually I function pretty well during the day. But during pregnancy the daytime I'm just wiped-out-exhausted during the day, and again will still be up at 2a.m. and unable to fall back to sleep.

Count me in too. I usually get to bed around 11 and fall asleep, but wake up again around 3 am and usually don't go back till about 6 am. I eat something and then try to get some more zzzzz's.

One thing that I've found helped reduce the amount of awake time in the middle of the night was taking a calcium/magnesium supplement before bed. Prior to that I was doing the 12-5 thing too!

I think I'm going to look into Valerian as well. Anybody know if you just use it when you wake up or take it on a regular basis?

I have no idea if I'm having sleep problems right now. I would love the chance to find out if I could sleep the night through!! Ever since I found out I was pg ds has been waking up at night up to 5 times, probably because he's been sick 3 times and is sick right now (poor baby ). I, too, am COMPLETELY exhausted - the worst is usually around 4 pm (of course AFTER ds gets up from his nap!!) Sorry!!!

Have made a promise to myself to try not to go on the computer in the wee hours for MDC (in particular) during this pregnancy. On another thread (politics) got sort of sarcastically smeared by someone doing a "why aren't you taking care of your gestating fetus by sleeping instead of posting" which sort of blew me away, but also made me realize that I don't need nasty judgmental energy about anything and from anyone intruding during this pregnancy.

Especially when it's nasty judgmental energy about something I've always lived with and can't do anything about. And that doesn't really bother me. And isn't harming me, really. Or my fetus.

There is also the idea that if I'm posting here I might be staying up longer than I would have with my normal insomniac self ...

Learn all sorts of things here, don't we. Sigh.
