Anyone have any words to live by? I find myself losing patience more and more often and I know I sometimes have unrealistic expectations. Things go so much better when I re-read any of the parenting books I like (barabara coloroso's book, siblings without rivalry, unconditional parenting, etc.) BUT, I dont always have a lot of time to read... I'm thinking of just putting quotes up all over the house that will remind me to take the time to teach, to let them be kids, and to not expect unreasonable things... but i'd also like my house not to read like a parenting book.

Honestly, I dont know what i'm looking for... but i have a few spaces that would totally lend themselves to putting up words, and would like it to make them count. (but i am so NOT eloquent, if you can't guess)

thanks

Here are some quotes that speak to me and I find helpful to think about. Not sure if they're the type you're looking for or not, some are more directly applicable to parenting than others, but here goes :

I don't know any quotes off the top of my head that directly relate to parenting but some I adore are...

If I keep a green bough in my heart,
the singing bird will come.
~ Chinese Proverb

Trust in dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
~ Kahlil Gibran

You can't prevent birds of sorrow flying over your head, but you can stop them from building nests in your hair.
~ Chinese Proverb

And my very favorite at the moment...

Faith is the bird that sings when the dawn is still dark.
~ Rabindranath Tagore

"This, too, shall pass." - Tao Te Ching (I think)

These days when I'm having trouble I also repeat the Wiccan "Perfect Love, Perfect Trust." I interpret these words in the larger sense of the universe being created, sustained, and energized by a Love that is perfect when we stop to contemplate its nature, and that things work out for the best when we relax into a perfect Trust that they can and will come right and that we are competent to handle them.

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

To finish the moment, to find the journeys end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.

Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

I really like this one from the Continuum Concept:
how." ~ Marshall Rosenberg (author of NVC)

They will always criticize you, they will speak ill of you and it will be difficult for you to meet someone who likes you as you are! So live, do what your heart tells you, life is like a play, but it has no initial rehearsal: sing, dance, laugh and live intensely every day of your life before the opera ends without applause.
(Charlie Chaplin)
