As long as you have a birth certificate (or the receipt you get when you go register the birth), it should be no problem. We just filled out the form, had to fax or mail a copy of the receipt thingy (BC didn't arrive until 6 weeks later), and that was it--no mention of our home birth.

We never had to produce any paperwork. Actually when DH sent an e-mail (with picture) to his coworkers to announce the birth, the HR director saw it and added DS to our insurance that day. Nice and easy!

I had to fill out the paper work to add dd, but all i needed was the dob and ssn. Just be aware that some insurance co's have 30 day cutoff to add newborns. I didn't know that and just made it.

It just took a phone call, no paperwork required or questions asked. We are switching insurances shortly after this baby is born and the new insurance requires a 2 week check up.

We are suppose to just be able to tell HR & that be that, they just need the birth date. We were told that by the HR lady & even the insurance booklet I read said we only needed the baby's birthdate to add him.

But turns out, last time around, we had 60 days to produce a social security number for him to actually add him to the policy to give him retroactive coverage from birth (we had a hospital birth, so the kooky change in info they wanted had nothing to do with where he was born, just your normal crap dealing with insurance). We can just go through HR to have them add the new baby or call our company, after a couple weeks we get a letter with a request for the SS # before they would allow DS to the policy.

I'd call insurance & ask how to add a baby to a policy, what info you need to provide, & if there is a time frame you have to do it all in to get retroactive coverage.

Requires a 2 week check up? Seriously? I'd say something not very nice to them. I make the medical decisions as the parent...not the insurance company.

Sorry you have to deal with that!

with 3 hb's we've never had a problem. dh would just call the hr person, then after we got the ss# they would add it.

hb shouldn't have anything to do with adding the baby to the insurance. I agree that it's worth a phone call to your insurance now so you know what their procedure is.
