Hi, my name is Stephanie and I live in Hemet(1.5 hours from San Diego)
I had two hospital births which were very traumatizing.
I am 18 weeks now and I want a midwife and to have the baby at home.

Does anyone know if Medi-cal or IEHP(Inland empire health plan, through medi-cal) will pay for a midwife?
If not I have seen lots of those "maternity" insurances that pay for prenatal care, do any of those cover midwifes?

I have searched everywhere and know one seems to know.
Any experience would be wonderful.

Thank you

I believe that medi-cal will not cover a hb midwife, but up here in northern Cal I know of at least one birth center that does takes medi-cal. You should call around to the midwives in your area and interview a few. Many will take payments or work out a plan with you. Good Luck on having the birth you crave, I am in the same boat as you and now at 19 weeks.

I agree that midwives themselves seem to be one of the best resources for info about which insurance companies cover HB. Call a few midwives and find out if they have worked with your insurance companies before.
