DS2 is becoming more interested, lately, in what he wears. So, I'm wanting to find some fun/interesting/unusual clothes for him for back-to-school. Anyone have any suggestions? We need comfy, we need warm (we have extremely harsh winters), we'd like slim sizes and/or adjustable waists in pants, and we want quality pieces that will withstand a rough and tumble little guy. DS especially loves dinosaurs, pirates, airplanes, rockets and anything related to music. So, if you have any ideas, suggestions, etc., spam me with links, please!

No, its a clothing wasteland out there for those of us blessed with boys. I've had ok luck with lands end, but its all pretty boring for boys.

As they get older they get really good at wrecking clothes, too. Thats fun.

Good luck, post anything you find!

I just bought a bunch of fall pants for my DS (5 1/2) at Kohls last week. He's really skinny too, so they all had adjustable waists (actually those little elasticy tabs with the buttons concealed in the waistband). They had a big display of Tony Hawk clothing on sale, and the Tony Hawk jeans were adjustable (DS liked them a lot, and they didn't have noticible logos or anything). It really stinks because unless you want to buy into the whole superhero licensed character stuff, boys clothes are really bland. Kohls did also have some non-licensed long sleeve polos with sports themes. I also got DS a really neat airplane "outfit" -- the shirt had planes on it and the pants had a camo pattern that when you look closely is made from airplanes.

It's way out of my pricerange so I can't comment on fit, but Hanna Anderson is supposed to wear like iron.

I'll have to look at Kohls' online store. The nearest Kohls is 120 miles away, and with gas prices the way they are, I'd be better off paying more for something I could purchase locally. Thanks for the idea, though. (The airplane outfits sounds like something my DS would like.)

Btw, Hanna Andersson does wear like iron. You can get good deals at the outlet stores, too. And if you don't live near one, you can call them and they'll tell you what they have in stock and ship to you. (It helps if you are familiar with Hanna clothes, especially collections from previous years, so that you can make your selections without actually seeing them in pereson.) On the boy lines, especially, I have found some real steals! Also, ebay is a great place to buy (and then re-sell for good prices) Hanna clothes.

Yeah, I just discovered Boden last night, actually. When I was looking around for coupon codes, I found one for Boden, and just clicked on it to check it out. The clothes look very nice! I think I'm going to order a few things and see how the are IRL. Thanks for the tip.

I've found decent boy's clothing at Children's Place - it is a mall store. Maybe there in one in your area? They often have good sales. They have a lot of boy's clothing with adjustable waists (my 3 y/o still fits in 12 mo. or 9 mo. size pants for the waist....). It is the only local place I've been able to find pants that I can get to fit him. They have some "trendy" looking clothes - e.g. things with surfer themes, etc. on them, without being offensive of in bad taste (IMHO - such as skulls).

I think that Osh Kosh (Kohl's) also makes some adjustable waist pants.

My ds is just 4, and very skinny. He lives in Levi's adjustable waist jeans. I get them at Kohl's and ToysRUs. I find them to be pretty sturdy and good quality. Any other pants, like khaki's, I usually get at Gap, since they have the adjustable waist and fit him well. All adjustable waist pants aren't created equal. The ones from other stores seem huge. Shirts I get anywhere. I usually wait for sales at Gap or Gymboree, or Carter's brand shirts at Kohl's. I find these brands to be decent and don't twist and shrink in the wash.

Land's End is great but they are expensive, plus the shipping and handling.

granolathreads.com does really unique embroidery on t-shirts. I got a cute rocket ship for my son and one that says,"My mom is weirder than your mom." Anyway, I thought it was cute. She has several pages of designs she can make and her prices aren't bad. She's a WAHM who does this to help support her family.

For simple, rugged boys' clothing I love Hanna Andersson and LL Bean.

For cute screen print tee shirts I stalk eBay for Mulberribush auctions.

We had some tees from babywit.com a while back ago, they held up well and had prints that I hadn't seen elsewhere.
