If you are interested in participating in an interview for Branching Out, a verbatim theater project focused on becoming a parent after the death of a parent, please read on. Verbatim theater is an impactful tool that reveals voices in the act of discovery and it’s Daniel Kenner's hope that as a piece of live theater, Branching Out shines a light on the bittersweet emotions a new parent experiences as they reflect on the memories of the past. Daniel's parents, Buddy and Maureen, were soul mates and passed away within four months of each other in 2017. A month ago, on his thirty-sixth birthday, Daniel's wife Jasmine surprised him with the exciting news that she was expecting! She's now at 10 weeks, so it's still early, but they’ve seen the heartbeat and the feeling is other-worldly! And yet, a week after the news, an old grief resurfaced and Daniel began to wonder how he'd keep his parents’ presence alive in his child’s life. In June and July, Daniel created Tuning In, an arts-based research project which led to the draft of his new verbatim play, “A Window at the Moment,” which looks at the experiences caregivers and healthcare professionals have using music as a treatment for people living with dementia. If you, or anyone you know, would like to participate, please reach out to Daniel directly with 3 dates and times you are available for a 40-60 minute block of time between September 26th and October 16th. He will then reach out with a project release form for your review and signature. If you have any questions about the project or the process, please don’t hesitate to ask Daniel at [email protected]
