Hi everyone...

I should have done this before my previous post, but I was so busy thinking about newborn procedures that I spaced "manners"...

I am looking forward to getting to know you, and hopefully some in person in a play group or mom's group after my peanut is born.

My name is Amalia. I am 39 years young...I'll be 40 in July...wishing for a HUGE PARTY...but most likely won't as I'll be almost ready to birth by then...will celebrate after though!

I'm originally from Argentina...I moved to Seattle back and forth on many ocassions...but this last time was in 1989...and I stayed. I lived in Capitol Hill for years and years..went to Cornish and then the UW. Moved to Kirkland for a few years...met my handsome and exceptional hubby whilst on the Eastside...then we decided to purchase a house with a big yard...which took us far, far away from the Eastside and Seattle really...ended up in Auburn/Federal Way...with a BEAUTIFUL home that sits on 2.5 acres.

We have 3 dogs (Germand Sheperd Dog, Australian Sheperd and Beagle wanna be) and 1 ADORABLE and MISCHIVIOUS (sp) cat named Pookie who all love all the green to roam in...

I am an AVID gardener...I collect Japanese Maples...I have a little tropical garden thing going...I planted an orchard of 15 fruit trees which have fruit on them now!!! HAPPINESS!!! I have a perennial garden and a veggie garden, which this year, due to large tummy, has been given over to the weeds...but there is always next year...or the year after that...

I am an artist...I got my degree in Printmaking, although now I only paint...(I don't have a press)...plus I am really enjoying my painting. I have a lovely studio here at home and do quite well with my work. I'm very lucky...

My husband's name is Joe...he is just great...and we have a lovely relationship...he is a pilot for an express cargo company and once in a while takes me up on the jet...which is a nice perk!

"Speck" is my second child...I was pregnant exactly 2 years ago with my precious daughter Olivia...who died 3 days shy of her due date...she had an "hourglass" shape in two places in her cord...the rest of it was plump...she was perfectly healthy, but apparently twisted the cord, (or the cord got twisted) and the blood supply was stopped. We miss her terribly...she is very loved...as is her little brother inside...

I am SO looking forward to meeting Speck in July/August...we haven't come up with a name YET...but are still hopeful. I am planning of breastfeeding, co-sleeping and cloth diapering. I've been completely OBSESSED with cloth diapers...I can't believe how adorable they are....I've purchased enough to support online businesses for years... :LOL :LOL :LOL ...I have them all washed are ready to wear...Pookie isn't too thrilled to have them on...(just kidding!)...really I don't torture my cat in THAT WAY! :LOL

Anyway...that's me in a nut shell...Thanks for reading!

Hi Amalia! I don't know how far you are from me (I'm in Marysville) but maybe you could come and hang out with our little playgroup that we have going. (ladies from here, they're pretty awesome too) I'm also due in July (july 22) so I'd love to meet another preggo. I'm very sorry that Olivia didn't get to join the world, but I'm glad her baby brother has a beautiful angel to watch over him. Good luck finding a name, we just settled on one last week! LOL

I hope to see you around!

Thanks for your welcome Lisa and Rebecca! Lisa, you are due on my birthday! And I think Marysville is north quite a bit...up by Everett isn't it? Maybe I'm thinking of someplace else...I'm south of Seattle, about 20 miles! Thanks for your invite!

Rebecca, I'm just 10 minutes away from Tacoma...so I'm very close. It would be great to meet with you guys! I love Gig Harbor...I go there once in a while to meet up with a friend...last time we met we went to this really cute knitting store...I can't remember the name...I'm still working on my SCARF!!! I guess it will be for next year!

haha...xoxo Amalia

Hi Amalia,
Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your baby! You sound like you have a wonderful family and a beautiful house. I want to come visit your yard!

I hang out with Lisa and a couple other moms up here in Everett so if you ever want to make a trip up here to hang out, send me a pm! I live in Mukilteo so that might be a bit far for you, but would love to meet you.

Have fun getting ready for your new arrival!

Congratulations on your upcoming babe! I am sorry for your loss with Olivia, thanks for sharing her story. My ds was also my 40th bday present 3 years ago, best present I ever received. Your garden and studio sound so lovely. We have 3 small veggie beds this year in our rental house, and have loved watching what came up, putting in more flowers. I dream of having a home with a studio, even though it has been years since I picked up a brush, but feel sad now that I did not pursue a more artistic direction years ago. I also used to live on Cap Hill and had friends that went to Cornish, we could have crossed paths many times. Welcome!

Hi Amalia, I enjoyed reading your story and am so sorry to hear about Olivia. Thank you for sharing.

I live in NE Tacoma/Federal Way. Have you heard of La Leche League,LLL? It is a breastfeeding support group. Pregnant women are welcome. It is a nice group of moms in the area. I attend the Federal Way meetings. We meet on the fourth Thursday of the month at 10:00 am. This month we will meet on June 23. We meet at Light of Christ Lutheran Church, but are not affiliated with the church. Here are the directions to the meeting.

From I-5 North or Southbound, take Exit 142B (Enchanted Parkway). Continue west on the street you are forced onto (it changes names several times).

Turn Left on 21st Street (there is a Taco Bell on the corner).

Turn Right on 344th Street

The church (Light of Christ Lutheran) is on the right about 2 blocks up.

Light of Christ Lutheran Church

2400 SW 344th St

Federal Way, WA 98023

I will be there this month. Let me know if you are interested in going to the LLL meeting. I will look for you.

I have an 18 month old son, Joshua. I also love to garden. The summer of 2004 when Joshua was 6 to 9 months old, I just couldn't keep up with my small garden. This summer Joshua loves to be outside, so I have done a ton of work. I just told my husband tonight that my garden is weed free. I have never had a weed free garden before. I am so happy to be outside and spending time with my happy toddler. To my amazement, he has not discovered the random piles of dog poop yet.

This is my first post. I am following the nursing in public threads and considering going to the Seattle Center on June 27th.

Hi Michelle!

Thanks for the welcome! You know, I was told about the LLL meetings in Federal Way and looked at their website. I have put it on my calendar so I'm hoping to go...I have an OB appt that day as well, and I thought it might be a close call...how long do the meetings last? This would be a good one to go to as in late July I may be giving birth...and I really want to learn all I can!!!

I did a ton of gardening in early early Spring, which I have to say has paid off...things are looking really good...but I have quite a few weeds...especially in my lawn...(I have a garden that is off limits to the dogs...so at least THERE there is no poopies!!!)...but I don't use any chemicals in my garden...so I live with the weeds! I did lay about 6 inches of compost so at least the weeds come out super easily!!!

I will let you know via PM if I'm going to the meeting! It would be nice to meet you and your son Joshua!

Hi Amalia,
The LLL meetings go from 10:00 to 11:30. Depending on the topics and the number of moms, I've seen the meeting end as early as 11:15 or as late as 11:45. I usually hang around and visit until noonish. No problem if you have to slip out early, I have done that when my daughter has a minimum day at school on the same day. This group is very casual and I like them very much. I have 3 children: Neil 7/31/88, Lauren 9/27/95 and Joshua 11/19/03. With each child I have attended LLL meetings in different areas of the country. I really like this group, but at first I felt uncomfortable. My first meeting, I was 8+ months pregnant. I noticed every baby that was changed was wearing a cloth diaper. I didn't know that cloth diapering still existed. I'm glad I continued to go. I went back because I liked the leader Paula. She has a great pesonality, did not cloth diaper and I connected with her. Over a few months I did realize that not everyone cloth diapered. One nice perk for me was that several other mothers also had teenagers. For me the dynamic of having a teenager and a baby at the same time has brought it's own new challenges. People come and go and now there are at least two cding moms well actually 2.5. I'm the half. I started looking into cding for a pregnant friend. I couldn't believe all that is out there. You are right they are so cute. I started reading cding forums and got really excited. Since April of this year, I cd at home, but use disposables at night and when we are out. My goal was to cut my cost of disposable diapers in half. I have done that. My LLL cd friend recommended the Mother Ease Diapers, so that is what I have. I also have picked up a few Under the Nile diapers too. Now look at me I'm a cd mom too. Other than my LLL friends, I don't know anyone else who cloth diapers. I really like all the forums out there. I don't feel alone.

One other thing I did was visit the Puyallup LLL group with my friend. I can't go this month because Lauren has a softball game. I did check the LLL web site. I can see the the Kent group meets in Covington the first week of the month. I would go with you if you wanted too check it out.

Have you been reading the posts on the Breatfeeding Awareness Day on 6/27? My friend Cecily is helping organize it. You may enjoy meeting other moms there. I bet you'll not only meet lots of breatfeeding moms, but also ones who cd, co-sleep and wear their babies like you and me.

I'm going to try to make that LLL meeting also. I've heard of it but never been to one. My mom was an LLL district leader while I was growing up, you'd think I'd go, but I still think "mom's friends" when I think of LLL.

Hi Amalia!

I'm also new to the board - I live in South Seattle. Our stories are so similar...I'm PG with a boy after losing our first daughter shortly after birth last summer. How has this PG been? Are you holding up okay? Your further along than I am...I can't wait to be closer to my due date

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for your post! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope both you and your little boy are doing really well. We are doing well...my pregnancy has been for the most part great...I began having a lot of contractions a couple of weeks ago, but now I'm back to a normal amount...I have a great OB who monitors me a lot...which DELIGHTS me! I do notice that as I get closer to the due date, I'm feeling more and more anxious...but I am trying really hard to stay positive and remember that Livi's reason for dying was a "fluke"...and that it just CANNOT happen again. UGH. Hopefully in a little over 3 weeks I'll be holding my little one.

I am sorry that you lost your little Luna...what a beautiful name...How are you doing?

Thanks again for your post!

Hugs,
