Hello, everyone! My name is Corey and my DH and I have just decided to TTC our second. Our first (DS) is 18 mos old. I've lurked at the Diapering board off and on for the last yr and a half, and now thought to join you ladies and ask for some help.

I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there with any advice for me. First - I currently have an IUD, but that comes out this week - has anyone had any problems conceiving once having had this removed?

Second - a previous Dr told me I had Polycystic Ovarian Failure - the failure to ovulate regularly (?). He had told me to "face the fact that I might not get preggo"........ 4 wks later I found out I was pregnant and switched Drs (needless to say).
I had a wonderful, uneventful pregnancy, a great delivery and a healthy son.

So now we've decided to do it one more time - I'm a WAHM and a full time college student (have two and a half yrs til I graduate). We think this would be the best time, since if I got preggo within the next 6 mos or so I could stay home with baby and DS til new baby was at least a yr old - giving us plenty of time to BF, CD, etc.

My need for advice is this - we've given ourselves a 6 mo timeline (if we don't get preggo then we'll wait a few yrs til I'm established in a new career and try again). Considering the IUD and possible POF, what does everyone recommend? I've tried the hormones, that was horrible. I'm considering ovulatory test kits of some kind. I thought of possibly going onto the Alesse birth control again - I got preggo right away when I went off of it last time, but I'm afraid that with our timeline I'd only mess up my system even worse and lose my chance to get preg. What kind of homeopathics are available, etc? All this is new to me - when I was TTC last time, we didn't have internet access, only my Dr that I now know was pretty uninformed. I'm worried we'll be in the same boat as last time (took 2 yrs to conceive DS) since my periods are right back to their old irregular tricks. Any advice would be grand, feel free to email me if you'd like. Thank you everyone in advance!!

Corey

I don't have any personal experience with IUD or POF, (if you really have it) but do have a lot of TTC experience.
I recommend you start looking into herbs to promote fertility and ovulation such as Vitex, Wild Yam, Rasberry Leaf, Red Clover, and Nettles. You can get the book Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year which has herbs for prepregnancy, pregnancy and postpartum.
I would advise against Alesse, as there are better ways to regulate your cycles that don't have advers side effects. Plus, sometimes when going off BC pills, it can take a while to ovulate. Do you chart your cycles? If you aren't aware of how to do this, you can pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility . It is a wonderful tool for TTC, as well as for getting to know your cycles a bit better, and establishing whether you O or not. (You can click the link on my signature that says "We're TTC!" to see my chart, to give you a visual example of it.)
Good luck, and you've come to the right place. Women here on the TTC boards really know their stuff!
