I want to knit clapotis for my mil for her b-day, but don't want something that will take forever or that I can't knit while nursing. What has your experience been? Thanks!
I started knitting less than a year ago & consider myself an intermediate knitter. I made a clapotis in less than 2 weeks. I thought it was extraordinarily easy & I thoroughly enjoyed knitting it.... I'd love to make more of them.

I'd say go for it.

Naw, it's no big deal. Some common antibiotics will clear it right up.

Sorry, I couldn't resist being a smartass. I'm a beginner knitter and have no idea what clapotis is. Forgive me.

Back to lurking, I was curious about the clapotis difficulty myself.

Oh yeah ... suppose I should also add, for Candace , that the clap(otis) is a really lovely shawl pattern from knitty. I'm planning one myself for my twin sis' birthday present. Should be fun!

I think I read somewhere it is pronounced clap-o-tee. Sounds a little better...maybe.

Thanks Mamas! Does anyone want to suggest a yarn to make it with. There is no way I can spend $30 on one skein. I like my MIL, but not that much!

There's a yahoo group devoted entirely to the pattern at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Clapotisknitalong2005/

If you join, you'll see in the database section all of the different yarns that people have used. I used some hemp/wool blend that I koolaid dyed for a lovely (IMO) purple/heathered look. I was in Baltimore a few days ago & ran into a woman who had made hers with Malabrigo. There are even folks in that group that have used Red Heart. LOL! Pretty much anything goes....

I want to make another, slightly smaller, one from a handpainted merino. That Malabrigo one that I petted in Baltimore was sooooo soft. (insert drooling smiley here...)

I've made Clapotis three times now, I love it! It's not difficult at all. I made one with Knitpicks Sock Landscapes and one with Knitpicks Andean Silk.

I am working on my first clapotis now. Not at all difficult. I'm using this velvet viscose yarn in the Indigo colorway. Very beautiful so far!

I think the clapotis is pretty easy. And I had fun dropping the stitches--at least, once I got past the OMG-you mean I'm really supposed to let it fall-and not try to frantically catch it before it slips down-panic.

I made mine out of KnitPicks Andean Silk. So soft and warm!
