for me, I got kinda tired of the competition of it all. *I* started feeling that if I didn't get the most expensive diaper out there then I was somehow not "cool"

I know nobody was putting that on me but myself, but sometimes I just felt like it was a status thing. Like if I were to drive around a bmw rather than my mazda then somehow I was a better person, that's how everything started feeling for me. Yeah I understand that some diapers are good quality diapers, organic materials yada yada yada...but when it comes down to it my prefolds work just fine for me and why should I be out there spending tons of money I don't have just for a diaper, too feel cool? :

Ok, I admit that I'll be banished forever from this hyena pack that's ok...

I know that's not the kind of answer you were looking for, sorry about that. But I'm wondering if anyone else has started to feel that way and also backed off.

I have my share of great diapers, but latley for me, other things have become more important. I have a great stash. A stash I love and feel is perfect for us. I just can't justify spending as much money on diapers any more when there are other things that we need. (like robeez and wooden toys ) And when I already have more than I need.

I found what I liked and what works and my 19 mo is using the potty half the time... so we're in toddler prefolds, my trusty Liz's Cloth and old, well-worn ME OS because they pull down for the potty. I love my diapers- I just found that I need simple stuff and loved trying it all and finding out what worked for us. I'm just riding it out until potty training and knitting wool pants right now.

edited to say- Rachel, I did feel some of that. Once I tried a lot of things, I realized my prefolds/Liz Cloth were the best for us- regardles of how popular they were

I love the diapers I have and would like to have more, but don't really need any, so I've been trying to look ahead to larger sizes as I get some money saved up.

The diapers I want most are nearly impossible to get, and that's discouraging sometimes. I would be all over the RB FLAGs if they were size 2, and I would like a few more Darling AIOs. Patchwork Pixie wool covers fit Jade like a dream, and Terri's got some adorable covers in stock at FMBG, too. And there are some new diapers I'd love to try at some point -- Tykie's Diapers, Valor Kids, First Class Baby.

I'm just trying to pace myself and enjoy what I have. Add to my stash a little at a time...

For me, I find my self coming here less and less. Not to MDC, just to the diapering board. We have all the diapers we need, and the only thing I've been snagging on is wool pants for fall/winter

We have been trying to save for our move and such.

Not only that, I've been spending alot of time working on my new store and all extra cash is going there.

I too have been hanging out on other boards (here at Mothering of course!) too! We have a ridiculous amount of diapers (I just can't get rid of them!!) but find ourselves using prefolds and pockets most of the time out of convenience and easy 'washability'. :LOL I do lurk quite a bit here though!

I just bought a bunch of covers for prefolds, but nothing 'exciting'. Some bummis, litewraps, a couple cute nb ones, and that neato cotton tie wrap from tinytush.com. Still haven't figured it out though!!

I'm embarking upon the season of never-ending-gift-giving-occasions:

November: FIL, Ds, my father

December: Hanukah & Christmas for the masses

January: Dh

February: Me, Valentine's, BF's birthday

March: BF's baby's #1 birthday

All on an already-stretched-to-the-max-single-income-in-SoCal. I need to sell stuff to fund these, but it seems like no one else is buying right now either! We need to recruit! Recruit! :LOL I'm wondering if I'll be able to swallow my pride and get a holiday retail job to help out. THere's nothing wrong with working retail, but I just can't imagine facing one of my prior techie-co-workers on the other side of the counter.

Well, for me, I hung up my hyena hat for two reasons. The main one is that Ian is doing the potty thing now so I see no need to buy more except for a fun purchase here and there. The other one is that I'm really a 'take what you need and need what you take' kinda gal in life and with diapers, I was having my addictive personality get the better of me. I had waaaay more diapers than I needed or could even get to use for a while there, and it all felt very wasteful and excessive, esp b/c he's in diapers longer b/c he is pt'ing and goes on the potty all day. Short of bad days, some accidents, night and nap, he's really good with pt'ing so I just don't need that many diapers. Lastly, I'm cheap as cheap can be. I've over the past couple or few months really fallen back in love w/my pf's and I can no longer justify spending $20-$50 on a single diaper when I can get ohhhh, a half dozen or more pf's for the same price.

Ok, that was 3 reasons.

*phishmama hangs head in shame and turns over her card* :LOL

I've quit buying for a few reasons, as well:

I have a nice stash and don't seem to go through it as quickly anymore since Christian seems to "save" his pee and go all at once now.

I found myself getting too caught up in HAVING to have the latest diaper and spending too much money! And, too much time stalking. Christian is very mobile now, so my computer time is limited

I just started a business and don't have the extra funds right now to buy lots of dipes

However, I DID just buy a nice, new blue Patchwork Pixie cover though. Her covers are my favorite! I them.

You know I've been wondering myself if there was a diaper buying lul going on, it seems like diapers and covers are selling really cheap on ebay right now with very few bids...

I don't consider myself a Hyena by any means but I did go a little crazy trying to find the perfect fitting wool cover, but now that I've found it (gotta love sugarpeas!) I really don't have the urge to try anything else.

We all need to go out and get some converts!
