When I first found out I was expecting back in August (with #1) I happened across a video on youtube, a slideshow actually, of a homebirth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-kL2yf-yFA It's so awesome! It moved me to tears! I watched it over and over. I have been planning to have a HB ever since I was a teenager so my mother was not too surprised with the announcement. But I decided to forward the link to her in the hopes that she would get really excited about HB. Well, I never received a reply or any verbal feedback and pretty much forgot about it until the other day when she mentioned something in it. I couldn't believe she had watched it and not let me know, just because I think it's that great! So the other day at her house I put it on, and I'm expecting to see her eyes at least get a little moist but NO, nothing! : Okay, to me, just the song alone, even if my eyes were closed would be enough to send me running for the tissues. And don't say it's hormones because I was not that far along when I first saw it. I may not have even been pg. yet come to think of it. Well, if you're still with me, what are your thoughts on this OH, so important matter?

I am bawling. It is a beautiful montage and I also don't see how someone can't be moved by it...but I am prego and hormonal if it makes a difference!

I think it is beautiful but I am not teary about it. Although I have been at actual births and not cried either (not even my own). Does that make me cold hearted?

People react differently to different things.

I wouldn't take it personal or read too far into it. For her, she may have experienced emotions over the video differently than you. Doesn't mean she didn't like it, she just may feel differently (not as moved).

If you put expectations on your mother to feel the same way you do (or anyone else), you will probably be very disappointed. She is a different person than you. (Although I totally understand your desire for her to be moved by this video as you were! )

I liked the video as well, but it didn't move me to tears. I thought it was sweet and wonderful, and that it was someone's intimate experience shared on the internet. Just a different reaction... but full of warm fuzzy sentiments!

It's great, and I got teary. I always do at the shots of moms concentrating in labor. But I think it is ok, some people just aren't the waterworks type.

Speaking of moving slide shows, someone posted it recently and now the link is dead, and I googled and ALL of the links are gone-- but there was a fantastic slide show of a homebirth to music from a few years ago the birth of Jude Fairbanks, I think one of the songs they used was Mother Nature's Son by the Beatles. If anyone can find a link, please post.

Everybody's different.

I can't stand the music on most birth slideshows, and turn the sound off. And I like really up-close scientific-y ones rather than really emotional "moving" ones. As a birth video, that one wouldn't have done it for me.

And I'm not pregnant...5 months postpartum here...I've got my 5 mo old in the next room - playing with her 9 year old sister...All 3 of mine were home births...and that reminds me - need to get my birth video done...

That video got taken down by the family (or so I read here on MDC). There was a thread looking for a it a few months back and someone found a link, so if you search this forum you may find it.

As for the original video...I must watch that clip at least once a week . It is just so lovely. It really captures those moments that are indescribable. The picture of the kids on the bed praying is just so pure. I showed it to my DH when we first found out I was pg again, and he even got a little teary eyed.

Very sweet! *Almost* makes me wish my labors had been longer so I could have gotten laboring pictures. I do have some nice photos though and video so at least there's that (I do have a nice slideshow with a bit of my twins homebirths, but it's a whole first year thing if anyone is interested ! Anyway, I cry at any sign of birth but some people just don't seem moved by it. Oh well - their loss I suppose!
