does wet wool smell like a wet dog? I washed my aristocrat for the first time because we got a teeny bit of poop on the leg. I used some natural baby shampoo, dabbed a bit on the stain and rubbed it out. Then put some more in the soaking water and gently squeezed for about a minute or so. Then rinsed in clean water. Then just rolled it up in a towel, walked on it, and hang it to dry. Maybe it's just a natural smell that I'm associated it with.

It does.. some worse than others. I think untreated wool smells the worst. I was so suprised when i brought home wool sweaters from teh thrift store to make into soakers.. tossed them in the washing machine to felt them.. and whew!!! My entire house smelled like I groomed dogs for a living! The smell does go away when dry, and I've never noticed my daughter smelling like dog even when she's in a very soaked night diaper and wool cover. But yes.. it's an aspect of wool nobody tells ya about
