This is so weird. Yesterday I noticed I had super sensitive feeling skin on the back on my neck on the right side. It feels like it's sunburned or something but there's nothing there at all. Dh says it's not red, no rash, no nothing. Also I have a stiff neck and it's in the same area although I got the stiff neck a day before this weird sensitive skin thing so I don't think they are related. The skin hurts enough that I don't even want my bra strap or hair touching it and it killed to have the hot water hitting it this morning in the shower. Any ideas on what the heck this is? It's just odd and more than anything it's annoying and I want it to go away.

ETA: I just changed the title since I've gotten pretty much everyone saying shingles so far.

The update at the moment is that I am SUPER itchy yet it still hurts to have anything touching the skin. I just took an old t-shirt and cut it down the shoulder line so none of it will touch the affected area.

Now since you mentioned it, I remember having something like that before, too, but can't remember what happened? I just knew the weird feeling, just like a sunburn where there was no chance of it, and it was super sensitive.

Not much help, maybe someone else can help.

I do get very sensitive skin on my legs when I have a flu. But last time I had that was at least 15 or more years ago. Since I have SA and take it the moment I feel like I might come down with something, I don't get that any more either.

Hope someone else is of more help.

It got worse and worse as the day went on. By the end of the night it was almost like stabbing pain. I had dh look me over really good in case there was a sliver or something around the area but again nothing. He said there was one little bump but that has been the area I kept touching.

This morning I woke up and there are a few splotchy looking bumps. Maybe just 3-4. It's so weird. The skin is still super sensitive and I still have a stiff neck, not sure if the 2 are connected or coincidence.

I've come up with 3 "new" things that have come into my life over the past few days. 1) some pregnancy tea 2) an extra folic acid supplement and 3) we ran out of our usual Charlie's soap so went back to using Tide for a short time. I haven't used Tide for a year or more but before that it was used all my life with no problems.

Could any of those be the culprits? This thing really sucks. I can't stand to have my hair or clothing touching the area but I don't really have much choice either.

Should I try and take a pic?

Have you been near anyone with cp?

Of course it could be one of the other things, and I do think the stiffness and the rash may not be connected.

But I just remembered someone telling me about that kind of skin pain and then she came down with shingles. Although it was on her belly.

Hmm...not that I am aware of. Man that would stink having shingles while prego Although it would be nice to expose my ds, I just didn't want to be the one exposing him! LOL. I don't think it would be the pox. I had it as a kid and then when I went into the military they did my titres and I was immune but they gave me the varicella vax anyways so I am more than covered in that area :

Wouldn't I be feeling bad if it were shingles? I always thought you felt really sick.

Shingles lept into my mind instantly when I read your second post! My 2 friends who had shingles didn't feel badly until days after the rash erupted. Then, they felt tired and flu-ey. Hope that helps. And I hope you feel well!

Assuming you have had chicken pox sometime in your life, I would guess shingles. Once you have been exposed to cp, the virus lives on in the base of your spinal cord. A weakened immune system (like during pg) or mild trauma to your spine can cause the virus to travel through your body and look for an escape. Thus the rash. I would be on the lookout for pox on your son within 2 weeks if it is shingles. The rash is pretty darn contagious.

I broke out when pg with ds. No fun at all. Then almost 2 weeks to the day later, dd broke out in CP.

Whatever you have going on, I hope you heal quickly!

The same thing happened to me last year, except I only had 3 spots on my back all close to each other. It was wierd. I heard stress can bring it on, and I got it in the middle of moving. lol So then a few weeks later my dc broke out in chicken pox. That is when I knew it was shingles. Before I had just thought I had gotten bitten somehow, even though I had no clue how.
Oh, and I didn't have any other symptoms, either.
I guess you will know if they scab over and your kid gets it! lol

Thanks for all the info ladies. Today I am 99.9% sure it is shingles. It looks just like the pictures I googled of it and the few I can see (since most of them are on the back of my neck) the little bumps are starting to look somewhat fluid filled. I felt itchy yet in pain most of the night and when I was able to sleep I dreamt of being itchy and woke up scratching. Today it really hasn't been itchy just really painful, I slept for a couple hours just to get away from it this afternoon.

I've been having ds touch it so hopefully he'll get the pox, that would be one good thing to come of this I guess

I'm hoping this gets better before Wednesday...my dh is going on a long weekend vacation to FL and won't be back until Monday.
